Congratulations on ur new tractor Pete,looks great.I sure like like your awesome chains I seen pics of them in your other posts also.I got to look at ur scraper blade also, looks very nice .Have fun with ur new toys and have a Happy New Year.

The Farmi 501 -- like its smaller brothers the 351 and 291 -- is a 3PH powered logging winch. Since I heat with wood and have 155 acres of hardwood forest up here in Vermont, the ability to harvest firewood is a plus. With that much land, there are usually enough blowdowns to keep my woodshed full...if I can safely get them home. The winch, with its nearly 12,000 pound pull, allows me to keep the tractor on a stable logging road and pull the wood to me...and then all the way home.
It's also great for looking like a hero when a tourist gets stuck in a drainage ditch.

Looks great, I could see the Logging winch being real useful, I wish I had more wood to harvest....

Well, with the wife still recovering I haven't strayed far from home, so far from harvesting some trees like I wanted to do all I've managed is some busy work right around the house. Moving snow and ice, harassing tourists, terrorizing small children and that sort of thing.
Impressions: The engine is incredibly smooth and has gobs of low end torque. The 853 loader is, well, massive! That's a lot of steel up front, but the breakout and lifting capacity is very impressive. The hydrostat is a little different than the old L3010HST. The pedal is longer, so I'm still getting used to it, and the resistance to pressure is different because of the location of the fulcrum. Also, when backing then switching to forward motion it seems to roll backwards a couple of inches before the tranny catches. And it whines. Not an annoyance, just something the L3010 didn't do. But this tractor handles the steep uphill portion of my road much better!
A seat is a seat. As long as it holds my buns I'm happy. Haven't taken the winch off yet, so can't comment on the rear hydraulics nor the Woods HBL-84-2 rear blade. The steering is extremely responsive. The 3PH is nice, and I really like the telescopic lift arms! I'll snowshoe up the hill with the dogs in the next couple of days looking for a big maple tree to cut down and bring home. That ought to be a good test!
