Google has introduced it's map service. You can get maps, driving directions and satellite photos! This is some neat stuff. You can drag the map around with your mouse, it lays out the driving directions on the map AND satelllite photo too!

Check it out: Google Maps. Note: The satellite link is in the upper righthand corner of the window.

I've been using Google Maps for a little while now. Much more accurate than MapQuest (that has put me on the opposite side of a town, more than once).

Looks like google is just getting started with there maps.

Try www.terraserver.com for a bunch of different types with various methods to find a location. City, zip, county and address. Most everything is about ten years old in my area, but the more populated areas are updated more frequently.

I'd been using it for a little while and really didn't even notice it. It is handy, especially if you have the google toolbar. Just type in the address and googly, googly, googly....there is the map....or was that boogity, boogity, boogity! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I, too, have been using Google Maps for a while. I really like it, especially the movable map when getting driving directions. Sometimes, I enter locations just to play around with the movable map. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Google's map of my place is much more recent than what TerraServer has.

Yea, I agree! The user interface for Google Maps is FAR superior to anything else out there. Moving the map with the curser is so much better than clicking.

I, too, like the drag feature and the ability to toggle between map and satellite image. Road detail is good. A lot of detail on railroads. But strangely, there is very limited detail on rivers. And creeks are non-existant. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif That is something I often look for on maps and driving directions to use as landmarks.
