I've got a $300 credit at Harbor Freight what should I buy? I'm not impressed with their Central Electric power tools but I'd like to get some sort of big ticket item that I wouldn't usually buy if I was coughing up the dough. How are their air tools or hydraulic stuff? I don't mind going over a bit if anyone has bought something from them for around $300 that you are impressed with I'd sure like to hear about it. I'm not big into body work or in need of any of their hyd presses and their welding equipment is mostly central electric and cost a lot more then the credit I have. Maybe a big compressor or something like that would be nice. The kicker is I have to go use the credit tommorrow before the manager finds a new job as its a verbal credit that probably wouldn't be honored by a replacement. I wish they sold tractor implements, they do have a salt spreader which I might be able to convert to throw seed and fertilizer but I haven't seen it yet. Another stipulation is it has to be carried at his store no web orders allowed.

I went by tonight to preview some of their stuff the electrical tools are what I remember a little on the cheap side. How about their air nailers, coil nailers etc anybody know whether they will last and be dependable. I also saw that they had 2 different gasoline powered AG water pumps one with a 3.5 briggs and one with a 5.5 briggs both capable of moving lots of clean water. I need to be able to water some fields the larger one is rated at something like 880GPH. Course watering is dependent on having at least some rain to get my creeks running again usually they run about 6" or more deep and 4 feet wide but for the last year or so they've been dry.

Steve,

Sounds like an ideal situation. Money to spend, and you gotta do it right away!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you don't really know what you want, why not stock up on things you'll need over time. Saw blades, drill bits, sand paper and so on. Chains and surveys flags are always handy. An extra set of hand tools for the tractor come in useful when your out working.

And don't forget about gifts. Does your Dad or another family member have a birthday coming up? Fathers Day isn't too far away, or you could always buy something and hold on to it for Christmas.

Have Fun,
Eddie

Eddie,
The really ideal part of it is my honey earned the credit, its funny I get to the shop and lately she's had all sorts of "stuff" in her office. You know girl stuff bought a HF like plastic owls, solar powered deck lights, cordless drill etc. She said she'd been bartering for stuff with them so I asked her to ask them if they'd let us accumulate more credit and get something we could really use and they agreed. The credit is up to $300 and the manager I'm sure is afraid I'll walk in and pick one thousand dollar toy which he'll have to figure out how to lose in his inventory, so he's asked us to come shopping today to avoid me doing just what he's afraid of. Its a pretty good deal actually he doubles whatever his bill is in stuff but the stuff I'd like cost lots of money and isn't made by Central Electric, Pneumatic or Hydraulic.

Need a plasma cutter ? This unit:

36 Amp Plasma Cutter

appears to be very similar to HTP's unit:

40 Amp Plasma Cutter

It's not a Lincoln or a Miller but it's about half the cost. HF is also showing a (newer model) 40 amp unit that was recently put up on their website.

I have the 36 amp unit myself, and while I certainly wouldn't mind having a bigger one, it has worked fine for me. I use it mostly to cut large sheets of plate or irregular shaped items that I can't fit in the bandsaw.

It's no where near $300, but their "heavy duty" reciprocating saw is really nice. I've had it for over a year, and use it a lot, and as a farmer, I'm pretty hard on my tools. In fact, several of my friends (all other farmers who use their tools hard) have bought them after they borrowed mine, and they're happy with theirs, too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

i just bought one of their framing nailers about 3 days ago. I'll be using it this weekend. It feels pretty solid in my hands, we'll just have to see if it leaks like mad.

Greenhouse.
$ 329.00

Have the Presidents Day Sale 10% off coupon ? Makes it $297.00 plus tax......

A greenhouse, you could love it, the wife could love it, or it could be a waste....

I just bought one. Now I have to finish mudding the laundry room, paint it, and then I can get my GH together for getting my seeds started. Ice Storm coming to memphis, TN should keep me huddled in the house tonight!
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif getting the right things done..... Speaking of which time to get a stash of dry wood in the house....

I wimped out, they were unloading 2 truckloads of new merchadise and really busy so I got them to agree to let me use the credit next week when things calm down a bit. I'm still undecided Eddie's idea of buying a basket load of consumables like saw blades, sand paper and drill bits has merit but I'd really like one of their big shop air compressors. Not sure which one they have a brand called US General that looks pretty good and they also stock Campbell Hausfield. The US ones they have up to 5.5HP 80 gallon for $999 and the Campbell they have to 4hp 60 gallon for $699. I wish they'd let me leave the credit and let it accumulate to cover the whole thing but I bet they'd rather I didn't, I'll ask them though, it'd be slick to get a great big compressor with no cash changing hands.
