Hope the "pop" was nothing.

Seeing how thread is already a bit distracted on wood density and log weights, may I also ask OP, what is the value ($) of a log like that is? As a log, and as rough cut lumber? I turned a nice oak into fire wood (many, many of those logs. I still feel guilty, but I don't think I lost too much money, compared to the time and hassle to sell one tree as logs, or get it cut up into lumber, and finding substitute for the firewood.

Around here oak is worth very little. I decided firewood is the most valuable form of oak here.

Was it the "pop-off relief valve"? My loader does that if I try to pick up heavy wet dirt. Lets me know that I have overloaded it somewhat.

If you heard a loud "pop", something is probably cracked, or broken. Check the front end (axles, axle housing, hubs, wheels, axle housing mounts, etc), the frame of the tractor, the joint between the frame/transmission, all members of the loader frame and where they connect to tractor, and cylinders.
Could be hard to see, so look HARD and THOROUGHLY. Machinery doesn't "pop" for no reason, and since it happened with a decent load, a failure somewhere seems logical.
I have a little John Deere 5303 (65 hp) with a loader. The hydraulics will lift a lot more than the loader/tractor combination is rated for, so I'm careful about not overloading the front axle.

If you are able to lift almost 2000lbs over your rating please check the hydro pressure and the relief. Something is WAY off and that will cause serious damage (and a safety hazard). Something is going to give with that much weight over rated capacity.
Cool photo however!!

The relief valve on that FEL is turned in as far as it'll go :D. A hyd. relief valve won't typically "pop". It just opens, unless it's turned in as far as it'll go . Sometimes you'll hear it "hiss" when bypass starts.

Actually, in our area, Red and White Oak are one of the few hardwoods that have steadily been going up over the last years.
