Today was the first day this year I've ditched the top and doors on the Jeep. Gave her a well needed bath and went for a Sunday drive. Got me a fish sandwich and an ice cream. The high today was 81 and plenty of sunshine. Stopped at the local tractor dealership and took a few snapshots.

Nothing like taking the jeep for a spin with the doors off. I usually keep a sun top on with no doors until winter.

Check out the the new 2012 Wranglers. 2012 Jeep Wrangler Press Release and Information They picked up an extra 80+ HP with the new Pentastar engine. The new interior (changed in 2011) looks more like a Grand Cherokee than a Wrangler. The new ones are tempting but I've got WAY too many mods on this one to start over. I also have the lifetime warranty. No way am I gettin rid of this one.

Topkicker,

Nice looking rig.

I've always wondered; How hard is it to get the top/doors off of a Jeep?

Do you have some type of winch setup to lift the top off?

Pretty simple. The doors still have external hinges just like all other Wranglers in the past. Lift straight up and away. The key is to keep the pins greased. The hardtop (freedom top) is 3 pieces. The front 2 pieces are very easy to remove. Kinda like T-tops. The back piece is not heavy but very bulky. Takes 2 to set it off. I'm workin on a hoist to remove it by myself and have it up and out of the way.

They sell a kit for removing the top that mounts to your ceiling. You can get it with either a come-a-long or an 110v electric winch. I got the one with the come-a-long and wish I had gotten the winch everytime I use the lift. I did get a small 12v winch to use with it for christmas but have not mounted it yet.

Jeepn is good for the Soul. I remove my top the first day it's warm enough to drive it in the Spring and don't put it back on until late Fall. I carry a cab cover in case I get caught in the rain somewhere. My wife and I own 8 Jeeps today, that number is constantly changing.

Saw the one with the come-a-long. It had some bad reviews. Several said that the top would drop too fast when reinstalling the top. The price really jumps w the added electric winch. I'm thinking of useing a boad trailer style wall mounted ratchet to lift it with. I didn't come up with the idea. Saw several this way on one of my Jeep forums.
