I whole heartedly disagree! While I will agree that the newer ones, especially the coil sprung ones, work awesome off road, I put that 70 CJ5 a lot of places. I did have, stock 4:88 and Powerlok, with a 2" lift. My Dad put it a lot of places stock, including early 70's Rubicon before lift kits and big tires. Mostly I had the 2" lift because the stock springs were worn out.

My buddies Rubicon('04 I think) works awesome, but he has put in a Rubicon Express long arm lift, gears, 35's, and other stuff. It is a lot cushier, and roomier. Real plasticy though.

And, I see the new Jeeps using the bypasses; they don't want to scratch up their $30,000+ rigs!

FWIW, I do not know of anyone with a new or old Jeep, that runs trails, that leaves them stock anyways. With simple mods, those old ones will go a lot of places.

We'll just agree to disagree. Not much way to prove it unless we wanna get together and wheel.

I certainly would not say old Jeeps won't go anywhere. A lot of mountain trails used today were opened in those old Jeeps. It just came with a lot of work on the operators part. A good friend of mine, now deceased, Richard Ward, opened a lot of trails in South Central Colorado with a basically stock CJ5.

A CJ5 in stock format will go where a modern SUV won't. But it won't even stay within sight of a bone stock TJ. Never mind the Rubicon model,,, that's a total different subject.

All manufacturers and most Jeep owners will agree the Rubicon TJ is the most capable, out of the box, production line vehicle ever built. Subject to your debate of course. :)

Nice pics. I really like the CJ sitting in the river.

Here's a picture of my YJ sitting in the river.

Then I added a couple above water so you can actually see it.....

Hey, I resemble that remark about yellow Jeeps!!! ;)

If my wife had here way ours would be yellow but could not find one in our price range. Don't really love the red but it was what I wanted for the money I had.

Ha! Thats funny. I've never owned anything yellow until this JK. My last Wrangler was tan. I was gonna get a green one but this one had a few more factory options. The Detonator Yellow is very bright to say the least. I like it with all the black. I dig your CJ. Nice pic in the river. Here's mine crossing one of my favorite trout streams in N Georgia.

Nice! Dig your fenders. This could turn into a Wrangler pic thread.

I would agree one of the new ones would do great stock. Even a stock '70 CJ5 with original powerloks would not match the articulation of the new ones. But it would not be far behind, and on most trails would do just fine.

And, as I mentioned, I have never seen many a stock Jeep. Heck, even in '68 my Dad and Uncle were putting longer shocks on, 11.50x15's...

Rubicon's... Been off and on doing that forever. Jeeps, thumper dirt bikes, 2 stroke dirt bikes, hiking, mountain biking...

We'll just agree to disagree. Not much way to prove it unless we wanna get together and wheel.
