Actually I just put in the "I" for the benefit of foreigners; here, I'd just say "down the 15". As would everyone else.
Being from Michigan originally, I just try to speak in a manner intelligible to locals and pick up on the local parlance. For the same reason, my Spanish has improved considerably.
Not a bad thing to acquire, especially if you're going to live here. Even more so, if you're going to be irrigating, landscaping, and growing.
Some well and septic details would be illuminating. It will be "totally awesome" if you have a decent well.
Thought: you might also want to start researching what kind of internet connections will be available there. The last thing I expected when moving from the 'burbs to the hills was no internet, but it took a lot of doing to come with an acceptable connection other than cell. Just 'cause it's CA doesn't mean you can take the web for granted.
You could sure have a great airgun range on that piece of property. You could probably have a decent mortar range, come to think of it, but there are probably ordinances against that.
PS: Just remembered, try to bring some decent gas can spouts with you for petrol and diesel. You can only get the special "no spill" approved spouts here which are terrible three-handed affairs that spill fuel like crazy. Load up your truck with 'em, you could probably make some pin money selling them to locals. A future generation of Kalifornians will never know that once you could gas up a tractor without spilling fuel all over, by just sticking a spout in a hole and paying attention.
