I wasn't infering that the keyway was for a shear setup... but rather to hold on a slip clutch. I doubt something with as much torque handling as a hog would use a keyway as the 'shear' point.. it would be darn hard to replace it when shorn..

Your probably right Soundguy. I agree with you, but mentioned the shear of a woodriff key in the lawnmower to id the one he had. Very few people have run lawnmowers and not had to replace that aluminum key, although many of them have gone to square keys for easier manufacturing.
Even if the woodriff key had been used as a shear, I wouldn't continue to use it, just because grade two bolts are easier to come by, and alumimum woodriff keys are few and far between. It would have to have a pretty good size to it to be a shear key... if used for a bush hog.
