I agree with diesel power. Just because you have an open injector line you wont get a lot of fuel. We discussed this in another post. If you have a power washer look at the difference with the nozzles. If you have the nozzle with the biggest opening in it (the black one usually) that has a very low pressure because the power washer might be capable of 2000+ psi but it does not pump a lot of volume. If you have the smallest opening nozzle (usually the red one) that one will take paint off of the wall or strip off pieces of wood. That is because with the limited amount of volume that goes through it the pump can develop high pressure. Injector lines work the same way. It has to have the resistance of a small opening to develop any pressure.

I'm sure you guys are right; however, cranking speed with decompression is about 600 rpm. That should give way more than a "drip" at the injectors. Hard to tell from here how much fuel that really is.

I have had the injector lines open on my Yanmars .And very little fuel came out and my yanmar runs good. And the mechanic at the JD Dealer told me to use ( K&W Copper coat gasket compound ) because the head is so short. He said not all of them would leak but a lot would if you did not put the compound on.

Well, I've used Copper Coat on head gaskets for years, but it's the first I've heard of using RTV.......

I also wonder if he had the throttle opened up when he was testing his flow, if the throttle was close he wouldn't get hardly anything.............

I suspect you nailed it, Dave. Didn't think of that. I think the manual even says to open the throttle fully.

Got the head off tonite. The tops of the pistons were filthy lots of carbon, top 3/8 to 1/2 inch of the cylinder walls carbon and rust, top of head same carbon and rust. I cleaned the tops of the pistons and head, pulled the offending valve and cleaned to the best of my ablity. I couldn't really see why she wasn't seating. I'll get the head into the shop and have them check it out.

Tomorow I'll drain all the new oil, pull the pan and push the pistons up. I am concerned with the carbon and rust on the top lip of cyclinder damaging the rings. probable need to clean the rim. Scraper? emery cloth?

If it were mine, I would replace those rings, regardless of their condition. A dull knife or box cutter will clean that ridge.

My opinion. If you remove Pistons with rings. You MUST First remove the top ridge. and VERY IMPORTANT HONE the cylinders walls with stones for remove any scratches this help new rings fit better. remove all carbon in pistons grooves. Check rings gap and adjust. My opinion you cannot install old rings. Your motor will be a blue smoker take oil. and HAVE LOW COMPRESSION. Good luck1 Oldmech

Or maybe a ridge reamer, check head for crack.

Man, I bet he didn't think he was gonna hafta do a complete overhaul when he bought this................

In for a penny, in for a pound as they say. Since you've gone this far, do it right, then at least you know you'll have a good motor for a long time.
