You guys are looking at it from your personal perspective, not the processor's. If people get sick and it is traced back to a processing plant, how you thawed and cooked your turkey doesn't count for much probably.
Also, if you thaw a turkey at room temp which provides ideal bacteria growing conditions, and it does grow a big colony of whatever nasty, when you open it up, clean it rinse it whatever, that contamination is probably going to spread to your counter tops, sinks, etc. Now, I know you guys are fastidious and all--Bird's coat in his avatar is always clean-- :laughing:, but just sayin'.
