Got Lincoln 255XT for my BD.

I am currently out of home so I can't check. Hopefully I will make it home this weekend and try few more test welds.
I used the setting from the chart inside one of the hinged covers. I am using Praxair 0.045 wire that came with the welder.
I also found that I need to get single power glasses just for the welding. The progressive lense glasses I am normally using have too small viewing angle.
I saw somwhere advertised a "fresnel lense" that is installed inside of the welding helmet.

You'll soon get it sorted out. Almost everything I've built with a few exceptions has been mig welded, with excellent results. A few days experimenting with settings will make a big difference.

I'd suggest increasing and decreasing the voltage setting as you do test passes on a piece of steel. After making several passes, compare each one and see which is the best. I make my own notes on the chart next to their recommended settings. I usually use the wire feed setting Miller recommends on their weld chart, but increase the voltage a bit. No problem doing that with thicker material, as it's less likely to burn through.

The Miller 180 has an "auto-set" position, you dial in the wire size you're using and adjust for metal thickness, the machine does the rest. I have good results using that, but I still like to experiment manually.

Thanks all for their response. Hopefully I will find time to start some project and report how it went. So far I am very bussy at work. My employer had record last year (I worked about 3500 hours) and this year looks about the same. I have no idea what recession they are taking about on the news.

That's great Ladia. Do some welds with your new beast and take some pictures of the marvelous welds and share them with us. I would really like to get a MIG like you have.
