I dont know anything about snowplows, but please tell me all those fuel cans are empty, and the full ones are in a seperate fuel shed.

Those are very nice setups!! I plan to move to snow country next year so I will need a plow.I see some threads with front mounted blowers. What would be the preferred method, plow or blower??Considering if cost was not a factor...

Kevin, how does your (beautiful) new plow float as the driveway dips and crests? It looks like it's held rigid hydraulically by the curl cylinders. Maybe there's some compliance in there I can't see in pic 1. My cobbed up Fisher plow hangs on a chain so it can rise and fall with uneven grade. Raising or lowering the loader alters the angle of attack - the ground contact is the shoes until you raise the loader quite a bit. I have a gravel drive, and the cutting edge is probably 1ス" off the drive with the plow frame level.
This year I welded much larger shoes over the old 4"x4" ones, now about 8" square, turned up a little at the corners. Last year it was warm and the drive didn't freeze even after it snowed, shoes dug it up. Yesterday's was much better, frozen drive and bigger shoes.
That setup of yours should push anything you get with no trouble. And yep, nice shop!
Jim

Jimmy,

Not sure how it will float over the dips. I have it adjusted to roughly 2-2.5 inches off the drive. I was thinking that putting the loader in "float" would allow the plow to follow the terrain. I have no flat land so it will be interesting to see how this works. I may have to fabricate some bigger shoes. Thanks for the advise.

About half are full. I can't seem to keep them full! I realize that this is a substantial amount of fuel. I'm looking at external diesel fuel storage for about 200 gallons. As for the gas, do you recommend a better fuel storage system? I don't want to burn down my building!

I dont know with the cold weather. Down here I recommend a small cheap storage shed, lean 2 , or just cover them with a tarp. just do it away from the building.

I'm with Firemanpat on this one. I keep all of my cans in a cheap 8x8 shed, along with other combustables like propane tanks. I figure, if it ever goes, it's going to be one big boom.

If you don't have close neighbors...a couple of pallets to stack your stuff on and a tarp to throw over the top works as well...:D

streamin,

If cost is no object, both, A plow on the front and a pto snow blower on the back. The plow is much faster, and only problematic if you have small confines and nowhere to plow the snow.

The Curtis setup new runs in the $2500 area, (if you already have the hydraulics set up so you have a third function: lift, curl and angle)

If you have a blower only, you have more options to direct the removal location, but they are considerably slower when clearing large areas.

I plow with a 96" HLA (Horst) blade which is very similar to the Curtis.

Here in Maine I don't have to worry about plowing the sod up as it is nicely frozen. But regarding dips and contours of the land, you do have to kind of feather the joy stick. I curl up a bit when I'm going from driveway to grass. This allows the blade to keep plowing while not digging in to the grass.

When you hit an unexpected obstruction the whole blade trips forward (as opposed to just the cutting edge).

Tractor plowing, as compared to pickup truck plowing, allows you to lift the blade way higher and move snow banks WAY back. The only instance where a big snow blower is better, IMO, is for really long driveways with limited room for snow banks.

PS - just got 12" of snow in my neck of the woods. Thankfully the ground WAS frozen, so I was able to plow my wood yard, etc.

My snowplow that I use is a fisher 7'6". I ran the hydo. lines from the back so I could angle the blade. Welded it onto a universal frame so I can change back and forth with my bucket.

15" of snow yesterday and last night here.
