got my first natural gas bill

i'm going to have to look back and see what we paid last year, but this year, we used 53ccf from 11-15 to 12-13 at a cost of 85.02; i like the new thing i spotted on the bill; avg use this year was 1.9ccf per day, last year was 1.5, avg tem this year was 45 and last was 51. last year we heated almost entirely with the radiant heater, this year i have purposely kept from using it and kept the thermostat at 70.
we've had some really cold temps since this bill was read, so i guess we shall continue to conserve.

The only gas heater I had was in my garage. Last year they were tacking on about $45 dollars in fees to the ten bucks worth of gas I used a month, so I cancelled it. This year it went up 90%, so the wood stove is back in action.

During the summer months I added another R-19 to the attic of our house and I have completely insulated the basement walls with R-13 fiberglass. However, natural gas prices in mid-Michigan per CCF have gone from 58 cents back in March to 76 cents in August to the current 84 cents per CCF. Last month my gas bill with distribution charges and sales tax was $46, its been bitterly cold and windy here and the latest bill has jumped to $196. I'm seriously thinking of buying a woodburner for our basement as I have 24 full cords of wood.

i understand: i said for years that ng would never get higher than electricity because of the flue and flame: but the problem now, is the ng company would just as soon sell all the gas to one big customer, to produce electricity, rather than deal with all the little accounts out here; my opinion anyway..i don't have access to wood: so i am considering the pellet/corn stove, not this year, but soon if the prices don't come back down. my bill was the total with all the add ons.

You are right .A gas utility makes more money selline gas to commerical customers than to residental customers.Where I live the elect. co just went up an adverage of $10.00 more per mo. to offset their nat gas cost & they are the reason nat gas prices is what they are.Nat. gas companies are selling more gas to the eletc. companies than anyone else.
