While she was sitting there, and I was on my belly digging out a tunnel underneath her, I thought a winch would sure be nice to have. Then I crawled up out of my hole and looked around and realized that I'd already removed most of the trees that were behind me for at least 500 feet. Then I thougt I could dig another hole and bury the backhoe and pull off of it, but I was getting silly thinking things that weren't gonna happen, so I crawled back under the dozer to digging my tunnel.

Good job on getting her out. A freind of mine got his 955 L Cat loader stuck about like that. He left it idling while he walked back to the house to get his backhoe. When he got back it had sunk til the platform was below the ground. He had to dig around it with the hoe and then pull with a D-5 and the hoe to get her out . Took 2 days and they were hard days at that. You did a good job or was lucky one. Later, Nat

I can also honestly feel your pain digging under it. When I was finishing my lake, I blew the hydraulic hose right where it comes out of they pump. The problem was that I was crumbing out my lake that had about 6" of water in it and about 1 foot of gooey mud under the water. What I was doing was driving down into the lake with my loader bucket down grabbing the crumbs and would drive into the nearly vertical rise of the island in my lake. I'd use the island to help me scoop my bucket full, and then back out and dump my load.

When the hose blew, I was against the island bottom with a full bucket rolled back. I had no hydraulics, and positively could not back up with the bucket full and sitting on the ground. That time I could not find anyone to help me, and I was way too far off the road for even a large wrecker to pull it out. I had no other option than fix it where it sat.

To do that, All of the belly pans had to be removed to get to the pump. Although it has been nearly eight years ago, I remember well how all my friends were busy that 50 degree day. It took me over 12 hours of laying on my back in the mud and water, freezing all the while, to get all the pans off and to fix the hose. In case you were wondering, after I fixed the hose, I raised my bucket and backed out before replacing the bottom skid plates! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My question is, were all of your friends also busy that day, or did you get some help?! If you got help, you have good friends!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Hope you're not too sore now from your tunnel work! Oh yeah, the 4' pipe wrench I used to take the hose off and replace it is still in the bottom of my lake somewhere. When I backed out, I'd left the wrench on one of my tracks. I didn't realize it at the time. I immediately took a long hot shower and went to bed when I finally backed the dozer out. It rained hard all night and my lake water level raised almost 3' overnight. When I realized where my pipe wrench was, I decided to just leave it! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dargo,

I can't imagine the pain and suffering you must have endured to get your tractor fixed in that situation. My situation was nothing compared to that, but you have raised some fears that I hadn't considered. Now I can add one more issue for me to worry about. hahaha

I moved to Texas from California two years ago to build an RV Park after years of research and planning. Setbacks and delays have me chasing my tail and doing things I never planned on. To keep myself busy I build houses and do remodels. In between jobs, I move dirt on my land in preperation to the day it all comes together.

Since moving here all I do is work and haven't made any friends to speak of. I have a tennant that will help if I ask, but I rarely do. I'm stuborn, determined and pig headed, which means I do almost everything on my own.

Eddie

Eddie, do you have the RV park done? My wife and I and a couple freinds are going to TX in april, we want to see some more of the hill country and like the piney woods area. We both camp. The last time we came through the area we stayed at Palistine then on the Kerrville. If you have the campground ready it would be nice to try your place. Later, Nat

The park is still a long way from being done. I'm doing everything out of pocket right now until I sell some land and a house. Once they sell, then I can move forward with the funding. Once the funding is in place, then it will be another 6 to 9 months of construction.

In the meantime, I'm doing as much prep work as I can to save time and money down the road. For the cost of diesel, I can get quite a bit done with no labor costs.
