I can also honestly feel your pain digging under it. When I was finishing my lake, I blew the hydraulic hose right where it comes out of they pump. The problem was that I was crumbing out my lake that had about 6" of water in it and about 1 foot of gooey mud under the water. What I was doing was driving down into the lake with my loader bucket down grabbing the crumbs and would drive into the nearly vertical rise of the island in my lake. I'd use the island to help me scoop my bucket full, and then back out and dump my load.
When the hose blew, I was against the island bottom with a full bucket rolled back. I had no hydraulics, and positively could not back up with the bucket full and sitting on the ground. That time I could not find anyone to help me, and I was way too far off the road for even a large wrecker to pull it out. I had no other option than fix it where it sat.
To do that, All of the belly pans had to be removed to get to the pump. Although it has been nearly eight years ago, I remember well how all my friends were busy that 50 degree day. It took me over 12 hours of laying on my back in the mud and water, freezing all the while, to get all the pans off and to fix the hose. In case you were wondering, after I fixed the hose, I raised my bucket and backed out before replacing the bottom skid plates! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
My question is, were all of your friends also busy that day, or did you get some help?! If you got help, you have good friends!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Hope you're not too sore now from your tunnel work! Oh yeah, the 4' pipe wrench I used to take the hose off and replace it is still in the bottom of my lake somewhere. When I backed out, I'd left the wrench on one of my tracks. I didn't realize it at the time. I immediately took a long hot shower and went to bed when I finally backed the dozer out. It rained hard all night and my lake water level raised almost 3' overnight. When I realized where my pipe wrench was, I decided to just leave it! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
