I've been doing my research also. I need/want a dump trailer that is more versitile. I think I'll be attempting to build my own. I want to be able to load the L4240 with an average implement, but with lower sides than most to prevent overloading! I'm going to limit myself to 10K as my truck is to high to pull a goose neck.

I have a Crosley trailer made in Florida. It is 8 X 25 ft, with 7000 lb torsion axles X 2, no springs. What do you guys think of the torsion axles?

Hi Builder,

My trailer was made by a company named BMF Trailers out of Marion, Wisconsin. They used to have a website but I think they are no longer are in business. If you PM me I can send you the name and phone number of the fellow who I dealt with. Maybe he can help you. After they built it, they dropped it off further south on a trailer run and left it at a trailer place in Elkhart, Indiana where I went up and pulled it home, (shorter distance for me). I have had it a couple years now and am still tickled pink with it. I get lots of comments about it. I am surprised nobody makes these kinds of trailers since there is definately a market for them.

Torsion axles are great. No issues with mine, nor the ones that made me get mine.

I'm personally not a fan of torsion. They don't load share very well and with a load they tend to have a baby buggy ride. However they a good for delicate loads like boats.

A trailer with torsion axles will ride smoother than the standard leaf type axle. However, on the torsion type if the trailer is not level when loaded...one axle will carry a heavier load while the other axle will have less. That's because with the torsion type, the axles are not connected and sharing the load like the leaf spring type, (having the "Y" connecting the axles to balance them out). That's why my personal preference is for the leaf type axles on a heavy load trailer.

Surprisingly enough, my tandem dually dump with springs rides pretty well empty (or loaded). Better, in fact, then a 14k deck over gooseneck with torsion that I used to own.

I told you guys I would update you this week because of some issues I had with my trailer.
Here is that update.
I have another, brand new, 16 ft x 83 in dump trailer.
The first one I bought would not lift fully. The hinge was too far forward and the tail of the bed would hit the ground before the load dumped. I also felt that the axles were too far forward for a gooseneck.
I called the manufacturer and was told to bring it to them, and they would trade me for a new trailer.
911 miles later I have a trailer that will dump properly, has the axles in the correct location and has several options that I did not order with the first trailer.
I am absolutely tickled with the folks at Maxey.
They may have made a mistake in the building of my trailer ( the original design was incorrect and has been corrected) but they absolutely made it right. The trip for me was a non-issue.

I'm so happy :) that I faxed them an order form for a 102 inch x 32 ft flatdeck gooseneck this morning,

Glad you got it resolved.
Did they help with the fuel cost for the round trip to Mt.Pleasant.
