It is a sad day when the pain/range of motion requires you to turn the cars over to another. I like the MH, F700 and two tractors because I can manage them. :)

These type of threads seem to be a magnet for everyone's rants. I have several myself, but I'm going the opposite way this time. About three month's ago, I took my car to a Walmart for an oil change because it was convenient and I was a few miles more than I like to go. A young lady met me outside the shop with a hand-held computer and took all my info. She drove the car into the shop and began the servicing immediately. When I returned after shopping, I found my car parked and ready with the windows washed and carpets vacuumed. The sticker on the window had been printed instead of hand written. I was pleased with the service.

Just last week, I went to an NTB store for a new set of tires. I got a very good price on the tires and also had a $40 off for a set of 4 coupon. In addition, while online I printed a $15.99 basic oil and filter change coupon. I included that in my service since I was going to be at the store for tires. I left the store with four new Goodyear tires perfectly mounted and balanced plus an oil and filter change for $418 out the door. My car drives perfectly and the engine oil change was done properly.

I know we tend to remember the bad experiences, but these two were especially good.:)

I don't do it b/c I like to have a complete control - i.e. what filter what oil is going to be used. Luckily enough our jeeps can be changed without raising up.

I use Mobil 1 15000 miles and KN, Bosch or Mobil 1 filters.

Glad you checked the car when you brought it home. I've never had my oil changed for me.

I have been having my changed for decades at the local change place and have had no problems. I hate screwing with oil filters and changing oil in low slung car is no joy. I guess some of you guys attract bad luck.

I probably will change the oil in my tractor since it looks pretty simple.

The garage I go to change my oil has video cameras mounted such a way that you can watch the guy doing the job from several angles. Never have a problem. The shop is in small town so all the customers are local. I am guessing if there would be a problem the guy would be out of business in no time.
I change oil in my tractor, lawn mower etc but I hate the hustle returning the used oil. No shop wanted to accept it. So my wife put on a miniskirt, walked to the same shop I tried before few days later and had no problem. Go figure.

Gotta change your own oil, a gallon milk jug full of waste oil set right in the middle of the burn pile really gets things going. :)

My last, and I mean last oil change at Monore Muffler they only put two quarts of motor oil in the engine. But like Jinman I've had many good experiences at local places where they've done a good job.

During my recent engagement with the car repair industry I saw a mechanic messing with Toyota and clouds of smoke were coming out of the exhaust. Well the story was the car owner was under impression the oil gauge shows the oil level - and the gauge was not working - and he kept adding oil to the level of 15 quarts. This mechanic drained some of the oil out, but he had to burn the rest of the overflow in exhaust:D:D:D

Interesting experience to see cars from the other side and hear what mechanics have to say:D
