Got my Oregon Concealed Handgun Permit finally!

Years ago i had a Calif Concealed carry license... let it lapse years ago. Im in the process of getting a Utah and an Oregon license sometime this year.

The wife wants one also before they stop allowing them (i know...can you say paranoia) but she first has to take the Idaho gun safety class.

After she takes this class well both get the licenses.

I used to carry a sidearm for years while working in Los Angeles on housing projects back in the 80's. After moving to Idaho i didnt need a weapon...still dont.

But i just want to get the license for times when we travel. Too bad i let the Calif license expire...

I'm not talking about back ground issues or proficiency at a range.

I'm talking about people who may have no criminal record or history of mental problems. But people who slip thru the cracks so to say, that would still be sketchy, showing irrational behavior, irritability, or other issues that would jump right out a another human being during one on one time.

Maybe that's unconstitutional, like profiling. But I know back in the day, here in CT you had to get signed off by an NRA safety instructor. I guarantee he would not sign off if he saw some underlying condition he feared would pose a risk to public safety. That was his responsibility.

Yes, there is an appeals process, but having worked in the criminal justice system for well over 30 years, absent concrete, verifiable disqualifiers, some will fail in one jurisdiction where it would have succeeded in another.

"Sketchy" is a judgement call and not quantifiable as are the other terms used. Our law was debated to death with dire warnings of "old west type shootouts" etc., but after several years without problems most who originally opposed it have had to admit it is a pretty good system. Missouri pretty much used the same template as other states with successful CCW laws.

Basically a Missourian can get a CCW unless it can be proven that they do not meet a specific set of requirements.

just consider yourselfs lucky, I live in the oppressed state of Illinois that doesn't allow any legal carry. If you carry to protect yourself from the criminals, you are one too. Someday soon I hope they see that not everyone with a firearm is a criminal.

I feel for ya. I just got my Wisconsin concealed carry permit a few weeks ago after waiting many years for a conservative to become Governor. There have been so many applications since it began in early November that the state employees processing them can't keep up.

I've only seen a few places of business in my hometown put up signs forbidding CC on their premises. As a result those places will no longer get my business.

I've only seen a few places of business in my hometown put up signs forbidding CC on their premises. As a result those places will no longer get my business.

For those places that have signs banning carrying you need to give them this card (pdf format attached)

Just print them out on business card stock and hand them out to the businesses that do not allow you to carry. (you can alter the text if you need to make any changes...like removing the fingerprints on file statement, as I do not think WISC needed you to get printed.......or I will alter if you cannot and repost)

It may help.

Just "not shopping there" without telling the business why will do no one any good

Here in PA all my wife did was fill out a application on the Internet, went to the courthouse and $20 later she had her permit.

I think Texas wants to make a CHL hard to to come by. With $140 for the license (half price for veterans, senion citizens, and indigent) plus the cost of the photos and fingerprints, plus the class for $75 to $100, etc., you have to really want one, but a lot of people do.
