Can't tell how much it can hold. 3 bushel hoppers are rated around 250 pounds. Doing the math, this one would then hold at at least five times more than what you're using now so that would certainly be easier. New ones are at least twice what they're asking here.

A lot of the bad reviews revolve around the metal hopper. You have to keep them dry or they can rust and be a hassle. Poly ones cost more but they don't rust. .

If you get a 3 pt. funnel type spreader, and it is made of steel.... wash it thoroughly after use... fertilizer will eat up steel pretty fast... I've been using mine for 12 years and it looks close to new.... I add about 100#'s per acre after the first cutting.....

Any recommendations for something to apply the fertilizer with?

I do about 15 acres with something like this:

I am fortunate that I have a co-op about 3 miles away. I can call them before I leave work and have my load mixed and ready to go by the time I get there, and have it spread and cart returned by dark.
