Got myself a new car

Greg, Great looking car. As my wife would say, "Boys and their toys."

When I got back from Nam, I bought a new 1971 Chevelle SS in green. I didn't keep it long as I had nothing but trouble with it and after fighting with Chevy about it they gave me what I paid for it against another Chevy. That time the wife made me get the 1972 Caprice Wagon as by then we then had a daughter. It was like riding in a tank but she felt save in it.

Beautiful. My father still has his '70 Chevelle Malibu from high school. Originally a 307 car, now with a crate 350, as he blew up the 307 back in the seventies. Wish it wasn't a convertible, but still a fun car.

Have fun with it!

My buddy had a '67 SS 396 that out did everything around including the 427? Shelby Cobra mustangs. Couldn't keep a rear end or universal joints in it though. Motor was too much for the driveline. No other cars could touch it including other 396's. His father bought it for him used. I think the previous owner must have hopped it up or something. The problem with all the muscle cars was the suspension. You just couldn't get enough traction regardless of what street tires you put on and racing slicks were illegal to run on the road.

This brings back memories. I too had a friend that had a 67 SS396. His parents bought it for him for his 16th birthday when he was 15. I was commissioned to drive him around in it till he turned 16 and got his operator license a few weeks later. That car would lay rubber all the way through 3rd gear.

He almost killed himself and a car load of kids when the front u-joint failed and the driveshaft catapulted the car into a ditch. The driveshaft whipped around and broke the bell housing trying to tear the trans off the engine.

Congrats on the new to you ride. Looks pretty cool and brings back memories of all the people cruising the Krystal parking lots in the 60s and 70s.

I was the oddball back then. I had a 69 Mustang sportsroof (fastback) that was lowered 2" all the way around. I was always in the to road racer look and sport and still am. My current sometimes driver and track car is a 99 Mustang that is lowered and set up for road course. I also had a late model stockcar I converted to a road course car but wasn't using it much so I sold it.

This is not the first time I've heard of this happening, but fortunately, I've never seen it happen. But once in 1956, I got into my parents' 1948 Oldsmobile in the driveway, put it in reverse, and quickly shut it off because of all the clanging and banging. The rear u-joint had dropped the back end of the driveshaft. No other damage done.

Although the car is 48 years old, it is new to me. I used to drag race when I was much younger and have always loved the classic muscle cars. Here is my 1969 Chevelle SS 396. It has a .030 over 454 now 461 big block with a th400 trans, 3500 stall converter and a ford 9" with 3:89 gears. It is fun to drive!

The '60 has a stock 350 and a 700R4, and the '59 has a 283 with a Powerglide.

I still like to watch the bullit chase with Steve McQueen on utube with canned heat music playing in the background.

Drove a 69 with 396 and 4spd... nice car... if only had the proper resources to put in a time capsule...

Bought a 1968 bone stock Z28 Camaro... hear those are really starting to take off price wise... sold it for 6k in the 80's when I needed down payment money to buy a home.
