I'm guessing you don't know all the abuse the original owner or actually the new truck's Ford dealer did to it. First owner did their own maintenance ? Probably not the best fluids and parts ? Maybe sank it in a flood once or twice ? Went off road at the Grand Canyon maybe ? Tried to set a new Land Speed Record on their washboard road ? Pulled the converter off and burned the valves ? Forgot to reinstall the air cleaner filter a few times ? When the first dealer traded it to another dealer, did the driver run it out of town at full throttle ?

Don't tell me these things don't happen and the trucks should take it. When I worked at GM Milford Proving Grounds I had to order, drive and buy a new vehicle every year or so as part of my job. The dealer stories are nightmares. I had a few sports cars that I put event recorders in. On one (a 2000 Corvette) A kid running it through the car wash at the Howell Chevy dealer on delivery took it for a joyride for 75 miles and topped out the speed recorder channel at 156 mph with under 40 miles on it. Tires were flat spotted, left rear wheel slightly bent and the steering wheel was mis-aligned. Never knew a car wash could do such intentional damage. Apology was NOT accepted.

We had one-a beautiful black crew cab 2005 Z71 Chevy. We owned it one year, bought it used with 30k miles. Went in the shop 11 times in one year with gauge issues, steering issues, etc. Our commute increased and so did gas prices (over $4/gal) at the time. We were mulling over getting a Honda Civic. Decided to go look at one and was rinsing dust off truck to make it look better for trade appraisal if we got that far. Windshield started leaking, that was the final straw. Drove home in a 2007 Civic.

Are you talking 4.6 & 5.0 engines ? Had a 4.6 in our lincoln town car no issues. I believe the 5.4 triton engines are not in that category.Owned 300-6cly.and 302 motors back in the day that were bullet proof.

I'm talking about the later model V8's that have the huge heads with 32 valves.

2011 and up pickups had the new OHC 5.0 Coyote, not to be confused with the old pushrod 5.0. When Ford finally started building their own engines in-house, including the diesel, the quality, power, and efficiency went through the roof.
