Got Some Wind Today

Time for some tiedowns? When the kids and I built ours 5 years ago, I put every post and leg on the swings in 2 feet of concrete.

Bmac, is just south of Atlanta where I was working when that line of storms came through. There is no question that the rain was horizontal and heavy. The house I was working had two 6’ French doors facing the direction the wind was coming and blew enough rain horizontally to wet the sheetrock wall 20’ in from the doors. Morning news showed a good number of trees down and roof damage in the area. My ride home, about 60 miles, showed where a good number of holiday travelers had trouble on the roads that morning. Just was not a pleasant day in the Atlanta area. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was telling my wife about this and a couple of others that I've heard about recently and we actually have wondered why are hasn't blown over. We actually have a pretty consistent wind blowing throw our property, it actually blew the back/side storm door off the hinges 2 times the first year here. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. But then I realized something different about ours that the ones I've heard about yours have that ours doesn't - the "fort" area. Yours has enclosed sides, ours just has ballasters like a deck would have. Other than the tarp on the top of ours I guess there isn't much for the wind to grab - that is a good thing because I would probably be out there every week standing it back up.

Glad to hear to major damage was done.

A little late for this time but I think I better get on that soon.

Had I done that originally, it would have been a bear to move from its initial location to the curent site. Also, the original structure had other peripheral elements anchoring it to the ground where this probably would not have happened. Good point, though.

Oh, but what a glorious day it is today. Sunny, in the 50's. A little breezy, but not too bad. Got the turkey in the smoker, my parents are here and the rest of the family on their way. Kids are watching the Macy's parade. My wife and mother are busy making the other meal preparations. Its going to be a good day.
