Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1531
Only broke the front driveshaft twice, front axle mount, rearend housing, stripped the PTO shafts twice, broke the seat mount, a tie-rod end, the backhoe mount on the subframe, several hoses and the frame(yes the frame). Been trying to speak with the regional rep. for 2 months now. Massey has refused the warranty claims the dealer put in for the housing and PTO shafts. With service and reliable parts like this how can you go wrong? Overpriced junk! I bought a glorified lawnmower. Nice tractor as long as you don't drive it.

On the bright side, I didn't have to service the hydraulic system, when it breaks every 10-20 hours you don't get to the service interval.

What the **** are you doing to that poor machine, beating the snots out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!

**** man, the machine works for you, take care of it!

I have 4,000 + hours on my boys and the have not needed anything but a water pump, alternator, oil and filters.......

Treat them like they are worthy work mates and they will be good to you. Abuse them and they will act like a high maintenance B*&^%!

Holy smokes. There has to be more to this story. I'm not being smart, but how could so much have happened, and serious breakage too. What do you use it for?

I have a landscaping business. I'm the only driver. It has a backhoe,4' brush cutter, 4' tiller, auger, rake and a boxblade. Other then hitting a small stump here and there with the brushcutter, there is nothing that should have caused all of this trouble. The tierod end broke driving across a customers lawn, at least I wasn't driving down the road with it:eek: As for the rearend/PTO shafts, I am disgusted. The implement shafts are the right length, oil level good, no water or dirt in there, maybe 33hp is too much for a small frame tractor? And speaking of the frame, maybe it's just not strong enough for a backhoe? Maybe the rep. will give me some input on that:rolleyes:

I will say that the dealer was good to offer a loaner tractor so I could finish jobs for people. Through the summer I had several Kioti tractors(CK20,CK25 I think). They felt a lot stronger and did a much better job than the Massey. I drove orange tractors for most of the landscaping season. I know what I'm getting next time.

I have been using tractors for about 45 years now, many different ones small to large and had to stop and think about this. Any way in that time frame I haven't had that much go wrong compiled.

You may have a poorly designed tractor but this isn't Massey Fergusons first rodeo either. I suspect you are being too rough on this tractor, owner or not.

It's hard to break a tie rod by driving across the lawn though I have lost steering linkage after 800 hours, or so of mowing with a 12.5 hp lawn / garden tractor. The linkage didn't break, it just wore out at the connecting points, and fell off. Anyway, it's always good to have a new member, and I appreciate you joining to remind me that it doesn't pay to beat on machinery. A bucket load of sand will help keep the front end from rising up, and banging back down when using the backhoe by the way, and that would be easier on the frame too.

I usually tip the bucket so it's facing the ground but that sounds like a good idea too. And maybe I do get a little excited at times but I don't think I'm hard on equipment, the several year old Kioti's I borrowed held up to the same work. I know stuff breaks but this is extreme.

It is not the tractors fault that you did not buy the right one for the jobs intended in the first place, now is it??

Sorry if I sound brash, but sounds like the wrong unit, too small.
