So in other words, the Kiotis that I didn't break are strong enough to handle the shock loads. They both had less power and are about the same size so that's why I thought less power= less broken stuff.

Less torque equates to less shock,so yes.Broken PTO usually is a sign of hitting something solid that tries to suddenly stop the implement causing a shock to the system.The weak point is what broke.Bouncing the front end will cause the steering gear to take a shock and the weakest part broke,the link.The steering was probably damaged prior to the lawn work.bouncing across it at a fast speed probably finished breaking the link.Turning sharply or jerking a tractor around at speed will also cause steering gear failure.I won't mention the safety issues with this operational technique.

You are making a lot of assumptions. Sometimes people just have plain bad luck with a certain brand or model. I know I have then went out and bought the same thing in another brand and had zero issues.

True,but if someone understand what CAN cause failures, it will prolong the life of anything they drive or operate.He may have a LEMON.
