I've had the 2554 for a week or so now and have to say it is absolutely great. The grass has been 12" tall and extremely wet from all the rain we've had, but it cut it without complaint. The deck had to be leveled, it was out by 3/4" side to side. Easy to do and after that it cut beautifully. Adjusting the pedals for a little more reverse speed helped, too. Now that everything is dialed in (wasnt that the dealer's job?) I'm really ready to go after the taller grass in the fields.
Seeing the 1550 at Home Depot a month or so ago got me looking at the Cubs. Talking to you guys here got me to reconsider and go see a dealer. I looked at the 1550 again when I was back at the store yesterday and can really appreciate the differences between the two machines, I am very glad I got the 2554 instead. Compared to our old mower this Cub is built like a tank.
Thanks again for the advise and help sorting all this out!

The 2554 is really a nice unit isn't it. I couldn't be happier with mine. Too bad about your dealer. My unit had everything adjusted correctly by them when they delivered it the first time, and when it needed the steering advisory done they came and picked it up, did the work and dropped it back off the same day.

I went through kind of the same steps as you did, looking at cheaper units, and decided spending the extra $ on the 2500 series with a large deck was worth it. After using it now for a couple of weeks I'm convinced the extra cash was money well spent.

I too am glad I bought my 2000 series CC (2042) last September. I was looking at the cheaper versions and glad I went to a dealer after reading post's here and decided that a 2000 series CC was the way to go, even though more $$$

My wife uses it mostly, but when I do get to mow with it, it's awesome.

My CC wasn't set-up right at the dealer either. I had to level the deck....no problem....at least I now know how to do it so I don't have to rely on them. I now have 21 hours on it and it's great.

I'm going to look at my pedal adjustment this weekend for the reverse....

All in all, I think I made a really good purchase. I have already changed the oil, filter, and HST filter! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
