GPM of well water for irrigation?

/ GPM of well water for irrigation? #21
Typically, in designing for irrigation systems, we assume that all landscaped areas should receive a minimum of 1" of water a week (equating to rainfall).

I will start this with my usual, I don't know anything about any of this stuff, but when talking about water needs for irrigation isn't it necessary to take the soil being irrigated into consideration? Bebster lives on Cape Cod. I have never seen anything but sand on Cape Cod, but then again, I haven't seen much more than the beach /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Anyway, because sandy soil drains so quickly and thoroughly, wouldn't you need to provide more than the usual 1" minimum of water? Or will whatever is planted be able to pick up what water it needs before the water quickly drains through the sandy soil?
