Thanks for posting that little chart. I have seen similar when I looked for fastener strength comparisons between Metric and SAE but never bothered to save what I found. I even have a few editions of Machinery's Handbook, the earliest from 1918 and the newest from 2015 and the newest edition has the info. But now, thanks to you, I have it on my computer desktop also and this will certainly save time.
Cheers,
Eric

Thanks for the replies!

Can anybody tell me the size of the bolt that I need?
8.8 mm in diameter. It's a metric bolt. As far as length, does your manual specify a length? You'll need an 8.8 mm nut(s) also.

8.8 is a grade of bolt... 120,000 PSI shear not a diameter.... Metric bolts are generally even numbers as 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and so on....

I think there is some confusion here. 8.8 is the grade nothing to do with diameter, per se. Metric shear bolt size will be something like M10x50 “property class” 8.8.
This is the info to persuse. It probably going to be m8 or m10 by 1.0 or 1.25 thread pitch. Then figure out the length. 20mm, 30mm. Etc.

Stores will sell them denoted as M10x1.0x20.

What is the diameter of the hole it goes in?
