Grain drill or 3 point spreader

I've always used the grain drill for rye grass and wheat ... my neighbor told me to use his 3 point spreader says it will be faster and does as good a job.

Questions for those that have used the spreader ... I have the field disc'd and am ready ...

1.) Best to use a drag harrow after seeding?
2.) He doesn't have the manual ... what setting on the spreader for Rye Grass?
3.) What setting for wheat?

OR ... just use the good old JD Grain Drill?

If you use the seeder/spreader, use a cultipacker to put the seed in. I always set the spreader at about 1/2 what I think it should be and usually wind up double covering. I seed with a broadcast seeder this way, just to ensure I don't run out of seed before I run out of field. Ken Sweet

The rye is going to run out much faster than wheat, probably 2 or 3x. My pendular spreader has rye and wheat in the manual, but I'm sure they are all different.

Ya ... after sleeping on it I have decided to use the drill. Always has worked.

I've used both and find I waste a lot of seed with the 3-point pto hopper spreader. Much better control and even distribution with the grain drill seeder. I use the hopper for fertilizer and lime.
