Grand Canyon /Flagstaff Az. area Hotels

The wife and I are headed to grand canyon area in late august.Were thinking about staying around Flagstaff az. or headed up towards the north rim of the canyon. Anyone have any suggestions on what motels to stay in out that way? Any parts of flagstaff to avoid?Thanks for any information.

We did a bike trip a couple years ago. The canyons are fantastic, but Zion National Park is phenomenal. We stayed at the Zion Ranch and can't wait to do it again. Enjoy

Try the Best Western in Tusayan. Very close to the park, good accommodations and an excellent, and free, breakfast.

We stayed in a Hampton Inn in Flagstaff. Very nice. The next 4 nights we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express right at the Grand Canyon entrance. It was a lot closer and saved a lot of travel time, but I hated the tourist feel of the area. I would try to stay in one of the hotels inside the park, but late August is probably booked solid.

We went to Zion next and stayed at Zion Mt Ranch, by far our favorite stay on our western trip.

That's the same p,ace we stayed. Got to see the Byson come in for dinner. That place is without doubt one of my all time favorites.

I pull a camper and only stayed at one Flagstaff motel on a rafting trip maybe 5 years ago and that was for convenience only. Try Yelp and Trip Advisor for reviews.

years ago I stayed at days inn in Flagstaff. Don't think they had any hotels near the entrance back in those days, if they did, that would be the place to stay. Sedona is a pretty area.

How long are you planning on staying there? Have you been there before? I've been a couple of times and find it to be an amazing view, awesome pictures, and about an hours worth of entertainment, then I'm done and ready to move on. I've never stayed the night there. The glass floor walk thing sounds interesting, but the only reason I would go there again would be to show my wife the view, or maybe do a rafting trip.

Stay at the Drury Inn, Flagstaff. They have a super complimentary breakfast and happy hour. Coffee and popcorn in the eating area all day. Last month I stayed at the Drury Inn in Fenton MO. Family reunion. We packed the place with about 20 family members.

Too bad you didn't make Grand Canyon reservations earlier in the year. My kids and I stayed at the Bright Angle Lodge on the South Rim when they were younger ( in 1982). Hiked the Bright Angle trail to the Colorado River (9.9 miles, 10% grade, 4380 ft elevation change). Stayed at the Phantom Ranch on the river overnight. Hiked out the next day. Took us 5 hours to hike down, the kids were hiked out in 8 hours. It took me 11 hours to hike out . I slept for about 10 hours after that ordeal.
