Zion Mountain Ranch | Cabins and Lodges in East Zion National Park Zion mt. ranch. They told me about a 100 mile drive to the north rim of the grand canyon and about 45 min drive to bryce canyon UT.We wanted to see both canyons so this area fit our needs. Thanks for everyones suggestions.

You will love Zion Mt. Ranch. We went horseback riding there and the guide was awesome. He let us roam around and do whatever we wanted with the horses. No nose to tail on that trip!

The views at Grand Canyon are terriffic, be sure to go at sunset and sun rise. The view changes every two minutes. We also did a wild life tour there that was great.

If you are up for it, hike some of the trails at Zion and Grand Canyon. It will change your able perspective of being there. Eddie Walker, I'll bet if you hiked down the Bright Angel Trail at Grand Canyon, you would be more than happy to stay over an hour.

Those switchbacks are brutal. No safety railings. 100 ft drops if you're not careful. Not to mention the mules on the trail.

When we went to Grand Canyon we stayed at a hotel at the entrance to the North Rim - don't remember the name but it was nice. While visiting the south side we both considered a mule ride down to the floor of the canyon. That was until the wife got to look at the trail we would be riding on. She gave me the word, it was not just NO, but H**L NO.

IF you are only going to one side of Grand Canyons, strongly recommend south rim. We stayed at a primitive motel near the north rim, hot water and cold water were reversed in shower, etc. There were deer grazing in the front lawn the next morning, doubt it is still there. We stayed in a small room with bath and private entrance in what had been a private home near the south entrance two different times.

Around Labor Day weekend in September 2005 I did an eight day motorized rafting trip from Lee's Ferry to Lake Mead. Talk about a magical vacation for me but might not be everyone's cup of tea. I flew out and back so I didn't have to burn up vacation days driving out there. I was in a fog for at least two weeks after I got back home. I wanted to be back in that canyon. I rolled the dice 5 years later and did another trip trying another outfitter for a slightly different experience.
It was fun but not as magical as the first one. The second one I knew what to expect so much of the mystery was gone.
But yeah 8 days of living on a raft with strangers....no cell phone, internet, bathed in the ice cold river...slept out under the stars every night with no tent.
