Holy overgeneralizations, Batman! To me, it's making a pretty big stretch to conclude that there are more problems with Kubota's HST+ based on a small number of TBN threads. Certainly you can go into the other brand forums and find one or more reports of an HST problem, but it doesn't mean you can generalize those either.

Keep in mind there are something over 18,000 TBN members that report owning Kubota equipment in their profiles, about 16,000 Deere owners, 2,000 with Kioti and 2,000 with Mahindra. Just statistically, your odds of hearing about a problem here would be almost 10 times greater with one of the major brands, so the 3 complaints you mention (one of which, if you read the thread, was just an adjustment issue), might not even have registered if it were a brand with less representation.

Sir, I never said there was MORE issues with this transmission vs another brand, I was just inquiring about the HST+, since there are a few issues reported. Its many more than 3 by the way. I just linked 3. But like you said, its usually an adjustment or something. Goggle 'Kubota HST+ issues' and see how many results are displayed. Another perpective would be out of all the HST tractors made by Kubota in the world, only 18k of them are represented here. A good sampling, but overall, not many. Like I said, I'm sure 99.9% are totally fine. With any man-made operating machine there wil be failures. Factor in maintenance and user error, its not unusual at all to have SOME reported issues with anything. I totally agree, more in operation mean more complaints, but proportionally speaking, issues seem quite low. I guess my question wasn't clear enough for some, I apologize for that. I was simply trying to discover if the added features of HST+ and the controls, electronic or otherwise, added enough complexity to cause above normal failures. From the feedback I've received, it doesn't appear so. Regardless of what I buy (most likely the Kubota) its a lot of money, at least for me. Personally, I believe it to be a valid question to ask owners of the tractor. I own a JD 450E dozer and often times people inquire about things like steering clutches and torque converters on this forum and others. Because I've had no issues with either one doesn't mean there aren't issues. Generally speaking, it comes down to maintenance and care vs abuse. When asked the question about these items or others I respect why the person is asking the question. I try not to make them feel petty for even asking. But, thats me. Thanks so much for the reply!

Purchased in 2009. Has never seen dealer for warranty service. All maintenance carried out by myself. Honestly, they are best in class. Philip.

Awesome! Thanks! So, servicing yourself is possible it seems. Thanks again!

I can't speak to the L3940 in particular, but the HST+ is one of the things that helps set the Kubota apart from other really good quality tractors and to me at least is worth the extra cost, Kioti, John Deere etc. have good tractors no doubt, but I love the HST+. This is my second GL and maintenance is very simple and easy to do.

I am in complete agreement on getting a cab, our last three were cab tractors and I won't buy anything else; spent my time over the last 55+ years sweating, fighting bugs, eating dirt and I have had enough. I now have breathing problems and a cab is keeping me in he seat; can't beat one for many. No argument an open station is great for many, just not me.

Could't agree more. The HST+ system is the primary reason I'm looking so hard at this tractor. I love it! Coming from a shuttle, I really like the power on demand capabilities and the fact I don't need to run it at 2000+ RPMs all the time to move it around. The HST+ seems very natural for me. The cab, well, its a must. I like the idea of actually enjoying my tractoring...hehe

I am a Kioti owner as you can see, and I love my DK35se, but I have enough objectivity to realize that the Kubota HST+ system is a advancement that sets Kubota apart from some of the other manufactures, Including Kioti. Would I love to have the HST+? You bet I would. Especially for the type of work and the terrain I deal with. I love and get along fine with the standard Hydro in my Kioti, but HST+ would just make some jobs easier and probably save on fuel too. As you can see from my post count, I am pretty regular here on this board, and I just cannot remember any real problems with the HST+ system. Oh sure there can be problems with anything, and especially if it is computer controlled, but I sure haven't remembered seeing any issues. Now if you want to talk about FEL lift capacity, per dollar? Now you are talking Kioti Dk40se..:) Good luck in your tractor hunt:thumbsup:

You didn't ask if there was problems, You told us there was all kinds of problems.

"Anyway, my concerns with the Grand L 3940 are power, HST+ reliability and some outrageous service stories I've heard about. On this forum I've read about some pretty big issues with pretty low hour HST+ tractors. Anyone want to chime in on that?"

Thanks James! I totally agree. The DK40SE is a real nice tractor that seems very capable. I've actually had a Kioti in the past and had zero issues with it, except it was too small. Not its fault at all, it was mine. Shoulda bought a bigger tractor. But, I really like Kioti. In the end, it came down to losing huge rebates on the Kioti if I chose 0% making the Kioti and Kubota less than 1k apart over time and the weak dealer support in my area. He's much more into lawn mowers than tractors and he's only been around for about a year or two. Too risky for such a large long term investment. But, that 401 loader is a hoss for sure. Personally, I like the cab as well if not better than the Kubota too.

Yes, you are correct sir. As I said, the question needed re-phrased. But, I had 'read' about issues...and was concerned about 'reliability'.

LIke I said, Google 'Kubota HST+ issues' and sit back and read for a while if you'd like. That being said, look at other brands too, there are complaints there as well. Probably more.

Well, I signed up today on the Grand L 3940 Cab. I pick it up tomorrow. They still need to load the tires and install the radio, rear work lights and quick attach system. I believe I've made a good choice, with your help. Thanks everyone for your critical input on this. I picked up a 6 ft heavy duty land pride cutter too. Can't wait to get to work with it! Thanks again for your outstanding input and help on this. I guess I need to change my profile now. :)
