Kubota L5240 HSTC, JD X738 Mower, (Kubota L3130 HST - sold)
Anyone have any clues on the front rotary broom for the -40 series? And a rough price? I'm not having much luck finding info on it. For giggles, I priced out a broom for a new -60 series and it looked like $7k+ from the "build your own" Kubota website. That's nutz!

Front PTO gear is expensive. Not nearly as universal as 3pt gear so they can crank up the price. Goes for the 40 series Grands & 60s. You can find used deals, but they are few & far between.

There are two options depending on which style quick hitch you want to use on your tractor. The older front quick hitch L2180-1 may not be available from the dealer, but can be found used. This quick hitch is the "duckbill" design.

The newer quick hitch (4-pt?) and sweeper is available from the dealer.
L4477 Sweeper: $4,566
L4554A Quick Hitch Manual: $2,000
L4554A Quick Hitch Auto: $7,995
L4484 Driveline Kit: $747

This info could be superseded by now, so it is only provided as reference.

Maybe this photo will be of value to you.

For what it's worth, I am trying to sell a used 3ph PTO broom. Brooms are quite expensive new and I am finding that they don't go for much used. Funny, how only certain stuff is like that.

To elaborate on Industrial Toys post, brooms are a very specialty implement. Most people don't have a need for them.

Usually brooms are for road work cleanup and parking lot maintenance.

Not to mention most brooms don't even go broken in because they are under utilized.

OK. About what I expected. Thanks guys. Finding used Kubota would be VERY difficult, methinks. I have been mulling over a hairbrained idea to make something like this from a used broom.; I see used brooms for lawn tractors on CL often enough:

Rotary broom 6,5hp: ( Briggs & Stratton ) for sale in USA | I

Then I could put it on my loader QA and run it that way without a lot of messing around having to take the loader off and all that. Just pop off the bucket, pop this on, and maybe connect the 3rd function hoses for angle function (you know I'd have to do it, if i was going to all that trouble to build... :D ) Downside is having to start the engine to use it and maintain yet another engine...

So I keep thinking about this and making my life more complicated :D Got to thinking What if i did this with hydraulics? I know the tractor hydraulics won't support anything like a broom, but I could add a PTO pump and do it. So since i just stepped outside what little info i had to go on, I was trying to sort out how much flow/torque/etc I'd need to run this thing. From my searching it seems these brooms typically run 150-200 RPM unless they are very large, then probably slower. So i find PTO pumps at 7ish GPM, hydraulic motors using 6ish gpm with a ~1200 rpm and 300ish in/lbs torque and figure I can gear that down with a chain and sprockets to hit the target RPMs and increase my torque to the level of the one i posted above. That gas motor is ~9.5 ft/lb torque, and typical 3600 rpm output, so gear down 18:1 and I get 171 ft/lb at the broom shaft (2052 in/lbs). So i gear down the hydraulic motor 7:1 and i am in the ballpark.

Am I missing something or is this the right general path for hydraulics? There are 10 million combinations of motors, pumps, reservoirs, etc and i have not designed a hydraulic system before...

If all you will need is 7 gallons per minute, your tractor probably puts out that much from the internal pump.

Specs say the main pump is 9.1 gpm. But I am unfamiliar with hydraulics at this level. If I suck out 7 gpm for a broom, does that leave enough flow to run the main tractor systems? Wouldn't make much sense to run the broom but be unable to drive the tractor, for instance. But this is my ignorance on this topic. And not even sure how I would tap into that.
