Grand L5740, cost to add remotes and third function?

The mid PTO is what I need to run a front snowblower, correct? I'm looking for clarification on the statement you made about not being able to have the mid PTO and the third function. Good info on the cabs supposedly always having the mid pto gear, lots to learn about these Grands.

Yes, front snowblower is driven from the mid PTO. A rotary sweeper can also be driven this way and uses the same subframe/QA system as the snowblower.

The Kubota front snow blowers run off the mid pto. There are different ways to run a front blower, such as loader mounted hydraulic powered units, but I'm not sure if the Grand L's would have enough hydraulic flow to run them without a pto hydraulic pump. There's also ways to run them off the rear pto, but the mechanism to do this is very expensive and ties up the rear of your tractor. The Kubota 3rd function return atraches to the bottom of the transmission case. There's a rectangular plate toward the rear that comes off and you can have either mid pto or 3rd function. I'm not sure how the aftermarket 3rd function is plumbed. I usually take my doors off in the summer. Two hinge pins and a pin for the door strut per door and they come right off very easily. Just find a safe spot to store them where they won't get tipped over. I haul firewood and skid logs out of the woods all the time with my cabbed tractor. Small branches aren't a problem and just brush past the cab, but you would definitely want to trim any larger limbs back. I would think you'd want the limbs trimmed back on your trails anyway even with an open station so you don't have to duck under them.

great explanations, thanks!

I wanted the ability to run Kubota's front mount snowblower and or flail mower. I'm correct in that both get their power from the mid PTO?
I've seen the Kubota front flail mower option out there, but never seen or heard of one actually seen in the wild.

My Peruzzo can be set to run off a front PTO. Somewhat common in Europe as are front 3pts. Not sure what all would be involved in mounting it & powering it on a Grand though. I know there would need to be a gearbox change at least due to the RPM differences. Front hitches tend to be pretty proprietary so very rare & expensive compared to standard pet or SSQA mounting. My flail is really heavy for my machine on the rear, much less on the lighter more complex & expensive front axle, so I never investigated that mounting option.

What model Peruzzo are your running? Are you happy with it for what you paid? I have been considering that brand, both for a rear mount flail and for a front mount Kubota F series flail.

Brush Bull 2200 although the 2200 might be called a SuperBull. It's about triple what the cheap flails were but is a commercial duty machine. I only do light commercial work with it, so I may have over bought in that respect. Its WAY more beef than my ancient Ford 917 flail ever had. I got it beat to **** a few years ago & it worked good for 3 decades maybe? The Peruzzo has double or triple the thickness on the hood, side plates & elsewhere. I feel no qualms about dragging it through & over 2+" woody brush & trees. The underside of the Kubota is by FAR the weakpoint (get a 3rd function skid plate).

It's a bit heavy & wide for my L4060, my loader can barely lift it. I'd be screwed if I was mowing lush grass. But I'm in Colorado so 40hp does ok on mostly prarie type grass, brush & small trees. Makes me wish for the extra 20hp & the bigger loader on a L6060, not for a smaller mower (or physically larger) tractor though. I prefer wide & slow, it covers the same ground as skinny & fast but is easier on me & the equipment.

I ordered a new set of hammers last fall after lots of trees, some fencing, rocks & trash. Just finished spring maintnance on it & found the not super sharp new hammers just as slightly rounded as the old ones. I have a couple hundred hours on it & barely into the lifespan if the hammers apparently. It was a pain to replace a broken side shift plastic bushing. The rest of the maintnance was normal. Easy to grease. A little work to check or tighten belts & check gearbox oil, but what else is new.View attachment 652219View attachment 652220View attachment 652221 20171222_150735.jpg

When I bought my 4240 new the dealer told me (if I remember correctly) that cabbed tractors come with the gear installed for the mid PTO while the open station ones don't. My tractor had to be split to install it. Because it was new I just had to pay for the kit and the dealer ate the labor. On a used tractor I'm not sure if I would want to pay someone to do it. I think if it was me I would look into a front mount rear driven PTO or a rear mounted PTO hydraulic pump to run a hydraulic front mount blower. I have a rear mounted sander/ spreader but I have never needed both the mid pto and rear pto at the same time in over 10 years of use.

As for remotes. If you are handy it wouldn't be impossible to buy aftermarket spool valves and mate them to the factory levers. It wouldn't be as clean as all factory stuff but it would be a lot cheaper. On the open station tractors it's not hard to remove the side fender/ panel to get access to install the stuff.

Good feedback on Peruzzo, thanks. I dealt with a lot of Italian machinery at my last job, and was impressed with the way everything operated. So you're running an 87" flail, correct? Who did you buy your Peruzzo from?

Peruzzo PTO Hydraulic Offset Flail Mowers -- Iowa Farm Equipment specs on the 2200 are at the bottom.

Although mine on the pallet allegedly weighed 1,900lbs. My L4060 & LA806 (1,700lbs rated capacity) couldn't lift the pallet (+ pallet forks + lift lost due to leverage), but could push it down the driveway. I could barely lift it a bit after removing the PTO shaft & packing material. So I think it's close to the 1,700lbs. It can still be a handful to move chained to the bucket but moves well on the SSQA to 3pt adapter.

That's a lot of mower!
