Anyone ever had any experience with one of these stores?

Do you mean W. W. Grainger, if so, they are great, But you need to be a business of some type to buy from them (at least here in Virginia). We use them at work all the time, prompt delivery. When I was coaching a high school rifle team, I used them for ear plugs all the time on the school's account. If you can find a way, give them a try.

Hillbilly,

Yeah, they have a new retail location near me. It is a good place to get better quality tools. They used to be only wholesale from a catalog, but now they do have walk in stores. The full catalog of products can be bought, it just takes a day or two to be shipped to the store.

There's a Grainger's near me out here in the S.F. East Bay, and I have shopped there numerous times. They have top-notch stuff, including things I can't find anywhere else. Anybody can walk in -- you don't have to have a professional account, but I think you might get a better price on some things if you do. Their prices tend to be pretty good anyway.

They also have a fine website, but I think you have to have an account with them to order online. They are close enough to me that I've never tried it that way.

Re: Grainger Store

I find their website to be top-notch. I order something - its here in two days. Shipping adds to the cost, but there is no other place to get some of this stuff. The cost is worth not having to deal with some clerk on the phone trying to check stock. Their on-line catalog is complete, but I keep a copy of the book catalog around just for my general education. Sometimes I don't know what I want, and being able to see all the pages lets me figure out what will do the job. On-line registration was a snap.

Hillbilly, I have to go along with everyone else. I have never had a problem with them in the 6 years I have been dealing with them.

If you work for a larger company they probably already have an account at Grainger. The more you buy from Grainger the larger the discount. I use the account number for the large company I work for. I just pay cash at Grainger so I don't cause problems here at work. Grainger has lots of things that are hard to find. Sometimes you can get a better price on the net but it may take time to get it. Grainger, at worst, is a 2 day wait to get something that is not stocked at the local Grainger store. And best of all - Grainger has never screwed anything up. What I order is what I get.

I read a lot of posts here thought I would reply to this one.

Granger is a 1st class operation, however, their retail / catalog prices can be high. Just 1 example; a cast iron rotary pump, that could be used to transfer fuel from a 55 gal drum to your Bota (or other color), is priced $86.25 at Granger. The cast iron pump at Global Industrial Equip. is $39.95. I'm a purchasing agent for an electronic manufacture and have seen no issues with quality at either. Try www.globalindustrial.com

Grainger is a decent place to buy from, good selection, however, I highly recommend MSC Industrial Supply. There catalog is HUGE, they call it the big book. You can be an individual, and they guarantee same day shipping on in-stock items, and guarantee about 99.5% in stock. I have ordered many things personal and/or for work before, and had it in my hands via UPS by 10:00 the next day. Their website is http://www.mscdirect.com. You will be amazed at what they stock.

I just bought Grainger's heaviest duty, most expensive engine stand.

When it arrived, I see on the box it was made in China. That's exactly what I was trying to avoid. I'm seriously considering sending it back. I don't remember seeing 'imported' in the description in the catalog.
