We broke ground on our new home, and in the front of our two acre lawn is an old overgrown grape vine. It was growing up a 15' maple, but I took that down, and cut the vine back last year. The area where the vine lays, measuring about 10'x20' slopes sharply downward. Therefore, any sort of arbor would look angled sharply downward at about 20 degrees. I'm thinking of a fence system of cedar posts and heavy guage wire. The house will be French Country style, and this grape trellis will add some character. Plus it's very old, and part of the original farmstead. I'd like to keep it and showcase it, as the farmer who owned the property is giving me some old black and white photos from the 1970's when it was a working farm. He planted the grapes at that time. I've attached some photos.

This first photo shows before I brush hogged and with the grapes tangled in the tree. It doesn't look it, but it's steep enough there you can't drive a tractor easily where the vine is.

Now that you're all thoroughly sick of my _ss. I'll tell you that big ball of vine in the front is the tree and vine being dragged away. In back of that is the vine laying on the ground. Any help appreciated. I'm looking for ideas of ways to present this vine tastefully and kind of "estately". You know, eye catching. Thanks and good night.

Here is a grape trellis/arbor I built last spring for a friend. In this picture the grapes were just starting to grow. By late summer the grapes made a great privicy barrier for the pool. How do you like the chilli pepper lights? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif They do add a nice touch.

Wow, is that awesome! I don't know how a metal or iron arbor would look sloping sharply downward though. That pool is the bees knees, beautiful.
