I would like to chart the daily inside & outside temperature for a year. I already have 5 months of recordings penciled on the wall calendar but a graph would be easier to see the big picture.

The problem is my old computer. It runs on Windows 8 AND I am the opposite of a computer wizard.

Is there a free, easy to use, secure, etc. online graph chart that any hillbilly can use?

Open Office is a replacement for Microsoft Office. The spreadsheet function should do your graphing and it should work with any version of Windows. However, Windows 8 is a poor version. Windows 7 and Windows XP are both better.

But he still has to learn the open office equivalent to Excel. Not all that hard, but it may be more than the wants to tackle. I dunno.

Ok, so I made this chart of 10 days in January temperatures in about 2 minutes on that online site.. It is pretty intuitive. I just took defaults for most of the settings.

A year of two data types over 365 points is going to stretch out a bit. The more data there is, the more cluttered a graph will appear. I broke mine out into the 12 months to compare year to year. With 6-7 years now, it's easier to see the wild swings in winter months and the relative calm of summer months. The August chart will change format to match January once I start recording that this year. I only keep outside temps though, not inside.

Note, this all has to be typed in manually since you have it in pencil. I get mine from official NWS data. There are personal weather stations that will do all of the recording and graphics for you if you want to spend the $200-$500 dollars for one.

My computer had Excel when it was new but the free trial period expired shortly thereafter and we never renewed it. Besides, we don't know how to use it.
I looked up openoffice and just like Diggin said, it was replaced by Libreoffice but it sounded to challenging to download and they talked about size/space required for it which added another element of danger to my mind, so it's out of the picture.

K0ua, I will look at your suggestion soon, I just got on here today and need to catch up on some of the TBN postings from my tractor buddies. It does look a lot friendlier than the other two.

LO looks more daunting than it is. If you have Win8, it should install and run fine. BUT, there is a learning curve to make graphs display in a way that makes sense.

I just spent 30 minutes on this trying to figure it out with no success. There were way to many decisions to make about things that I had no idea what they were talking about.

Well, you tackle things like that just like you eat elephants. You take one small bite at a time. I was able to make the graph you saw in 2 minutes, and I just took the defaults for almost everything. Give it another try. You can do it.
