Totally agree with James on this. (And we don't always agree....)

You are correct, we don't always agree. But I bought into your grapple philosophy when I was exploring grapples, based on your knowledge and experience. Now when it comes to guns and radio equipment, you should trust in me.. I have the knowledge and experience. You can add Telephony to that list and I will stay the heck out of medicine advice.:D

You'll be the first one I consult when my tractor electrics go haywire, promise.

I would have used my backhoe or pallet forks. There is no reason why a duel lid grapple couldn't do the same thing. It just would have caused more soil damage.

Maybe. Maybe not.

The narrow single lid EA grapples are considerably lighter than HD wide dual lid grapples. While a wide HD dual lid grapple would grip the rock IT shows, the additional weight the dual lid grapple burdens your FEL with would decrease your lift capacity and you may not be able to lift such a rock even though you can grip it. If you are going to get a dual lid grapple and have modest lift capacity (under 2000 lbs), you should consider EA's dual lid grapples which are designed to be strong without excess weight.

I have a wide HD dual lid, a narrow single lid and a medium rake single lid. If I were to tackle the rock IT shows, it would be with my single lid narrow grapple. No question. It is the most versatile.

If I was operating that close to the maximum lift capacity I would use my pallet forks. The pallet forks are considerably lighter than a single or duel lid grapple.
