Grapple Bucket on 3720

"Does anyone know what kind of and the thickness of the steel they use?

What do you think of the limb clipper from wolff manufacturing?"

Don't know about the Long 2N1 bucket steel. But another post in this thread says it is heavier duty than the JDs.

The Wolff limb clipper looks interesting. I've e-mailed them for pricing.

What type of machine are you using the 4 in 1 on. A bucket with that kind of weight is a lot for a smaller machine. It will eat up the lifting capacity.

The JD 61" HD bucket weighs 246 lb (reference).
That makes the 4N1 about ~120 lbs heavier. It could also be worded that the 4N1 reduces the lift capacity of a 300CX about 7.5% (over a 61" HD bucket).

I read the weight number from the grapple a few posts back and not the 4N1 bucket. So the difference is actually more like 200 lbs more and ~13% reduction in lifting power. That's starting to get significant.

This thread has really made me think about a 4N1 bucket. For me I'd also have to get the lines run down the loader and whatever else I need. 3rd SCV, I guess.

Another feature of the Long 4N1 is the larger size of the jaw opening compared to other 4 in 1 buckets.

My opinion, if you can get only one, it's the 4:1. It would have a lot more general use advantages than would a grapple. Yes, you could do the task you mentioned withthe 4:1. The word on the street is the JD 4:1 is not as heavily made as is the WR Long. The Long bucket is fully compatable and is really nice. I would take a look at it.

Ron, that bucket is used on the 110 which leaves 1809lbs more lift capacity... I have had it filled to overflowing with rocks and the tractor didn't blink.

Michael, that Limb Clipper looks like the answer to what I need and already have the hay spear to attach it to. Should be a lot cheaper than the full blown tree shear version. Let us know what it runs.

What did you guys do for the 3rd SCV? I have a 4720 and I am thinking of getting a 4N1 bucket. Doesn't John Deere sell one?

I already had ordered a 3rd SCV from John Deere with my 3720 so I will be using that with my 4N1 bucket. The WR Long folks also sell a valve kit:

Yes, John Deere sells a 4:1 bucket for our tractor size. I have mentioned earlier in this post that I think WR Long makes a great 4:1 bucket. My neighbor had one on his 4410 and now has another on his 4320. All things equal, I think WR Long buckets are a little heavier duty than JD buckets. That said, I just bought a JD 4:1. The reason? My local dealer has almost exclusively sold Long 4:1's and wanted to get in and check out a John Deere one. Thus, I got a great deal on a new 72" 4:1 from John Deere. Since I do not use my tractor hours on end as my neighbor does, the extra heavy duty does not matter as much to me (although I still would have gotten the WR Long if price was closer for me). Once it comes in I will try to give the group a more direct comparison of the FEATURE differences between the two. The more I see them, the more I think any tractor would benefit from such loaders. See, I am really not going against the advice I mentioned to Michael, just broadening my horizons.
