Grapple for L2501

I had a similar problem, for the life of me, I couldn't find a Feller Buncher attachment for my JD La145 tractor.. I have some 60 foot tall oak trees about 12" in diameter I'd like to take down, and stack for firewood.. it seems no one makes an attachment for that model..

Has anyone heard of Construction Attachment grapples
They make a 54 grapple that weighs in at 200lbs and my dealer sales this brand

My grapple is a Land Pride - SGC1560 - 60" wide - 820 pounds - WR Long third function electric over hydraulic for grapple function. But all of that banter does little to help you.

Basically there are two styles of grapples - those for rocks and root wads and those for brush. The rock & root look like a clam shell with shorter tines and the brush type has long tines. Then there is the single top lid or double top lid(single top lid split in half).

I have the rock and root style with the single top lid. I don't have enough brush on my 80 acres to fire a descent weenie roast. What I do have is old growth Ponderosa pines and pretty good sized rocks(refrigerator size). I have no need for a long tine brush grapple nor do I need a split top - two lid - grapple.

My tractor FEL will pick up 4250 pound at a distance 12" in front of the bucket/pivot pins. This is the exact center of the grapple. So subtracting the 820 pound grapple - it will lift 3400 pounds.

I have weight tables for large rocks and large chunks of Ponderosa pine. I've lifted a 2850 pound chunk of pine - but only high enough so the grapple didn't leave drag marks in the dirt as I backed up.View attachment 557603View attachment 557605

BTW - when you get your tractor - its a good idea to have one of these built. You never know where a wild branch, limb, stick or stob might try to go. This is expanded metal added to my OEM grill guard.

One thing to keep in mind, especially for the L Bottom grapples, is that Loader lift ratings are typically measured at the pivot pins - the farther away you get from the pins the less lift capacity you get.

Loader type: Kubota LA525
Height (to pin): 94.3 inches [239 cm]
Lift to full height (at pin): 1131 lbs [513 kg]
Lift to 1.5m (at pin): 1490 lbs [675 kg]
Lift to 1.5m (at 500mm): 1182 lbs [536 kg]

That last one is the important one - after factoring in the added length of the SSQA, 500mm (or 19.6") forward of the pins would put the lift point roughly at the rear third of the loader bucket, where presumably your main load would be.

So for roughly 20" from the pins you get 1182 lbs of lift - 450lbs grapple = 732 lbs net lift. The further you get out on the tips of the grapple tines, the lower that net lift becomes.

Now there are "tricks" like curling or dumping the grapple so that the load is now further back & closer to the pins but since you haven't purchased a grapple yet, now is the time to maximize your net lifting ability.

I understand about the "single source" benefits from getting everything thru your dealer, but why not talk to him and see if he's willing to have you buy the EA grapple & ship it to him for mounting / testing prior to delivery to you?
I know EA actually has a couple dealers that are ordering grapples from them now so it might be a win for the dealer as well.

Cost nothing to ask, worst he can do is say no. ;)

Best of luck whatever you decide to go with.

Here's a brochure I got from Leon in Canada on my quest for a FEL and attachments for my new (used) Kubota L2900. It has a chart for weights and lifts.

Thanks for posting your helpful info as well. It's a lot to learn!

Project King good video

Thank you!

I have a 54”. I would recommend it or the 50”. The long tines make it easier to carry multiple logs.

Another option is pallet forks. They work excellent at picking up logs from the ground because they are thin. But a grapple is handy when wanting to grab a single log from a pile.

Hello
I知 buying a new L2501 with a grapple
The dealer recommended a Titan ERG 60
It weighs 650lbs isn稚 that too heavy
I want to be able to move logs for firewood around
I was thinking Landpride SGc0660
It weighs in at 250lbs
What do you think?

Ray

Look at Everything Attachments, they have some smaller ones.
