Kubota L3540
Ordered a Kubota L3540 today and as I was talking to the dealer about the different grapples, he said, have you thought about a 4-in1 bucket. He said I could just trade in my standard bucket and get a http://kubotatractorforum.com/Kubota/Kubota_4_in_1_buckets.pdf L2245 4-in-1 for $1400. I figure that the 4-in-1 would do everything that a standard bucket would do, and then some.

Just wondering what advantages I would loose with a standard bucket over a 4-in-1 and what I would be loosing by not having a grapple.

If your primarilly doing dirt work....a 4 in 1 is probably your deal. If you are doing debris clean up, or logging and brush cleanup....I think the grapple is the choice - hands down.

I agree. I have both and they are the best two attachments I have.

If you can get the 4n1 for only $1400, that is a smoking deal. That's assuming that the $1400 is the up charge for the bucket and the diverter valve. I think that the diverter valve from Kubota installed is over a grand? You know that you can have a 4n1 and a grapple of some kind. There is no law or rule saying that you can only have one or the other. I say, get them both.

It's not really the law that I'm worried about, well kind of. She, "the law", only knows that I'm having hydros at installed on the front so that I can rent a grapple when I need one. The 4-in-1 also weighs 650 lbs vs. a standard bucket.

The $1400 is in addition to to the hydros and I don't plan on doing much dirt work. The first tasks I have planned is tearing down in old shed and doing some clearing back in the woods. I can keep the standard bucket and try to find a used grapple or just rent one when I need it. If I buy a new grapple , I was looking at this one but I just can't justify another $2k right now.

All bets are off. You're on your own. While the EA grapple looks good, I am pretty sure that you can get the same style for less money from other suppliers. Location can make a difference though.

Good luck

Just to clarify the grapple costs.....you can find an economy grapple for about $800 bucks these days. That's the direction I would go based on what you want to do. I seldom put my dirt bucket on anymore.

There's always the option of bolting the grapple clamps to your tractor bucket. You'll find the product page and video on our website here. That may be something to consider and may keep the "law" happy!! Those come complete with hoses and couplers and ship free to a commercial address or supporting freight terminal within 1,000 miles of Newton,NC.

I thought about the bolt on grapple as well but don't know anything about them except that a tractor salesman said they are junk. I personally might go that way if I could see it in action and talk to someone with first hand experience that has owned one for a while.
