A little background. Just picked up a Cab Kubota L4240 with 854 loader and 72" heavy duty round back bucket with SS QA. Had them install a front remote and 2 auxillarys out back.

I have several hundred ton's of broken concrete to move. Many a trees to move later and 5.5 acres to keep up along with about 20 acres at my parents. (I'm not exagerating on the concrete) It will all be moved to the lake edge to serve as anti-erosion material for about 300'+ waterfront.

I think a Grapple will help me drastically, what I'm trying to decide is if I should go with a add-on grapple and tooth bar or just get a dedicated grapple rake, like the OBG2 from WRlong. I "think" a flat bottom will work better for the concrete and will still work for trees and roots. I also think an open bottom will allow the dirt to fall through. The smaller rocks will need to be picked up with a rake or rock hound anyway.

Any thoughts one way or another? Any other suggestions? Having read all day today, I don't think the clamp style is right for me, it doesn't look like I'll move much concrete with it and it doesn't tilt back very far. I don't really need much stump removal either.

You wouldn't be disappointed with a dedicated grapple and a toothbar. I prefer a dedicated grapple bucket for moving debris and have a "flat bottom" type that ,IMO, does a good job with everything I've asked of it.
Did you see the new grapple Markham welding is making?

I'm also thinking on the same lines. Markham don't show anything smaller than 60". I need 48" Any thoughts?

Markham is working on a 48", they just released to 60" version. Look HERE for info.

Just saw the pictures and Yes, I'd consider that one, if the consenses is a dedicated grapple vs the bolt on.

They mention offering a 48" in the thread they started.

With the amount of work you are considering I would go for a dedicated grapple. The bucket sides will prevent you from grabbing a wide mouth full with the add-on style where a dedicated grapple allows you grab a big chunk of concrete since you can bury it into the throat of the grapple back by the pins which is where your loader has more capacity.

Grapple buckets are better at some things than dedicated grapples but I still think a standard bucket plus a dedicated grapple is the best combo. For picking up lumps of concrete however the grapple bucket has a lot going for it. That is exactly the type of task it would excel at. Alternatively you could get a grapple and modify it temporarily by welding some rebar across the tines to make it hold smaller stuff. That or just switch between grapple for the big stuff then regular bucket for the smaller debris.

I have been moving all kinds of rubble with my WRLong OBG2. concrete, big rocks, trees, large square 800 lb. hay bales. I started to doubt my judgement when I ordered the grapple but it has turned out to be a HUGE work/time saver. a couple weekends past I cut down 17 elm trees that were growing out over the old fence line. These were not small trees. I cut the trees up into 12 - 15' sections and just drove into the mess with the grapple down until I had a load and them moved them out of the fence line. One full day and the project was done. Without the grapple I would not have been able to do more than two of the trees by hand. I'm keeping my grapple!
