Yes, it looks like spruce is about the lightest green wood. Take a look at live oak..the heaviest. I burn live oak in my wood stove sometimes. I call those logs my "overnighters", because they burn slowly all night. About twice the density of pine.

Some of those trees standing there are a lot of weight.

It would be interesting to see a comparison chart showing "dry weights" to see what percentage of each species is do to moisture content and what percentage is from the wood density.

We let this tab extend toward the securing pin's sloped surface by 7/16", & that did the trick.

Wow. That much slop is inexcusable in a production enviornment. Or if the tractor sides of the QA's vary so much that the implement guys need to make them extra large, shame on the tractor guys. That's what standards are for. Glad you got it fixed though.

Dryweight Handbook Chart says: Pine,eastern white - 23# , Oak, live - 61# , Oak, white - 44#, Oak, red - 41#, Pine, longleaf - 40#, Poplar, yellow - 27#.

Dustin, have you gotten your grapple yet?

Finally got my grapple installed yesterday. My "guy" welded on the shims and installed the correct couplings at no extra charge! Unfortunately, I'm having some medical issues and will not be up and around until next week, but I will post pictures of the shims and the grapple "at work" just as soon as I am able... Next week I hope!

Oh... the guy who brought my tractor back said they were all impressed with the Wild Cat grapple... Especially at that price!

Called and talked to Connie and got the same deal- $550 + 145 shipping with hoses but no flat connectors. For that price I just couldn't pass it up. I got lots of fallen trees and branch piles to move so this should help a lot. They said they only make the single cylinder model now because they had to many allignment issues with the twin but that should work fine for me. They said it would ship today and I'd have it in 2 days!

Now all I have to do if figure out the hydraulics. I think I'd rather have it work off the FEL curl function with a joystick switch instead of the rear remotes. I found the selector valve-
Surplus Center - SAE 8 6 GPM DOUBLE SELECTOR VALVE 12 VDC P15544-2 but need to figure out the rest. Does anyone have good info on how to do this? Maybe some links to the parts I'd need?

Thanks!

That's the direction I decided to go last year about this time and I'm happy with the results. I talked about it some in this thread:

4-one-bucket thread in LS forum

There is quite a bit of information on the many fittings involved. I was supposed to add more information about the project, but never got around to it. Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that it's much cheaper and easier to just run hoses from the rear remote to operate the grapple, but there's a lot to be said for the fine detailed control my diverter offers. It's one of those things you really can't evaluate until you actually use one.

NOTE: THERE IS A LOT OF PLANNING INVOLVED with all the fittings. It was the first time I had ever worked with hydraulics and I tried to figure it all out by myself. I probably could have saved a lot of frustration by just calling the order into the people at Surplus Center and asking questions to make sure I had everything I needed up front instead of making supplemental runs to Northern Tool and Tractor Supply Company to get the right stuff (if they happened to have it in stock.)

Thanks for the info and the link. So what did you end up doing for the switch? I'm trying to find a good way to incorporate that with the joystick I have now (with built in rabbit turtle switch) or see if there is a different joystick that can have both of them.
