OK..Wow...Looks really nice! Thanks so much. It looks like it can really do some work. I also went back and looked at the Bradco again. It has longer teeth at the bottom that would be really good for picking a stack. However, the unit you guys have seems to give more uses. It opens so you can use it as a clam, or in otherwords, open the teeth and drop it down on something. I will call them and check it out further. What all have you guys used yours for? Again, thanks for the picks, it has given me more to think about.

We've really just used it for moving brush around. They call it a grapple "rake" - if you dump the bucket all the way, you can use the top half of the grapple to rake up debris. very handy for getting those last few pieces... It is very strong & well made - I wouldn't hesitate to grab anything - rocks, logs etc. the TC40 could lift.

Take a look at the WR Long version of the root rake/grapple.
On their website, there are photos of one mounted on a
Red TC35DA. Looks like a very functional device.

Thanks. I have now looked at many of the brands available. The Long and other clam style grapples I think would not be as easy to use for most of the projects I have in mind. Some of the other brands such as as bradco, make a type that has tines at the bottom. That way you can direct the tines under what you are trying to grab. They seem to be kinda like have pallet forks to move through what you are looking to grab hold of. Did speak with Bradco, can't say they were much help other than to say yeap, we make em, yeap they are good, just depends on what you want. They did not give me any guidance on size either.
Any one know of other manufactures that make the type with the tines at the bottom as opposed to the clam style?

Wouldn't the ones with tines tend to get brush caught in them as you go to dump?

Don't really know for sure. Just trying to guess from what others have posted and what I have seen. But... what you say makes sense. I am just thinking of these huge piles of trees and limbs and how best to attack them. Just read a long post about chippers. I suppose thats another way to go.

Leaning strong toward the Bradco grapple. Can anyone tell me what a Fozze (sp) valve does? Dealer is suggesting hooking up with one of these which will allow for a thumb switch strapped to the loader valve. I just flip the switch and that is supposed to divert the hyd to the grapple. Would not be able to curl and open and shut at same time, but could open and shut grapple and lift at same time. Any suggestions?

Slippy if you want the up/down/curl & grapple functions all at once I believe the WR Long valve gives you that option.

Do a search here on diverter valve - you should find plenty of info.

basically it is an electric soleniod installed on your curl/dump circuit. When activated it diverts the oil flow to the grapple cylinder. See attached

We plumbed lines from a rear remote. The diverter valve is probably easier to use. with our setup you need three hands - one to work the FEL joystick, one to work the rear remote control and one to steer. The diverter takes advantage of our opposable thumbs /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
