Grapple grapple

Are you looking to add a grapple arm to your existing bucket or do you want to switch out the bucket for a separate grapple? Countrybumpkin shows a photo of what you need to add a grapple to an existing bucket and that is the least expensive way to go. A separate grapple (look at the photo in my avatar) requires that you either have a skid steer adapter (not standard on Kubota L3400) or that you get a specially made grapple to fit the Kubota pin mounts.

If you need just occasional use of the grapple then adding a grapple arm to your bucket is easily the best way to go. Costs vary depending on whether you buy a kit from ATI or Add A Grapple (I think these are about 600-700 bucks now) or you can get something less expensive off eBay and do the welding/bolting yourself.

A basic separate grapple like the Markham 48 inch will cost about $900 delivered.

You'll need a set of hydraulic controls too which I don't believe come standard with an L3400. That will cost you somewhere between $400 for rear remotes you install to about $800-1000 for a diverter valve or third function valve installed by a dealer.

If you can give us further details on what you are trying to do with a grapple and what your budget is we can try to steer you in the right direction.

Adding a third function to a Kubota is relatively simple and inexpensive. I have a M5400, the joystick has a power beyond. It took about an hour to connect and mount the third controller. Cost including hoses was less than $200.

It is a reasonable investment of time for the amount of savings. Granted I spent few hours reading up on hydraulics ahead of time but still paid myself more than I make at work.

I have a "bolt on" WR Long bucket grapple on my L3400 with Kubota LA463 loader. I believe it was around $800. It works great as seen in the attached picture, and it is very well built. I have since purchased a Bobcat 863 with grapple, and I am thinking about selling my WR Long bucket grapple. Would probably want around $600 plus cost of palletizing and shipping. Send me pm if you might be interested. If you are just firm about wanting new, I would strongly recommend buying the WR Long unit.

That is not a bolt on grapple but rather a purpose build bucket grapple.

Well of course, but after you weld the tabs on the top of your bucket, it becomes a bolt on grapple.

JJ you have me confused. The WRLong link you posted shows a complete grapple bucket. I think the OP was referring to the type of bolt on kit that ATI and Add A Grapple sell and like Countrybumpkin and Westwoodlawn have in their photos. My original point was that I didn't think WRLong made such a kit. WRLong does sell complete bucket grapples as you noted.

Bolt On Grapple

Sometimes I confuse myself, but seriously, they do make a single cyl BOG -48 in to BOG-60 in, and a duel cylinder BOG-60 in to 72 in.

I just got off the phone with W.R. LONG, and he said they do make the kits. I told him I couldn't find them on the web site, so he looked, and he could not find them. However, they do make a bolt on kit.

That clarifies matters. Thanks.

We need to get Nelson to bring his website up to speed.

Dangerdoc,
I am getting ready to mount a grapple to the skid steer plate on my L5030HSTC and sure would like any help you can give me on setting up an additional set of front hydraulics for the grapple. Right now I have the joystick up front for the bucket and two sets of rear hydraulics - one of which I could use for the grapple -- but I sure would like to get a lever next to the joy stick to make the use of the grapple a lot more user friendly
