Not sure where I heard it but the rule of thumb on larger tractors is the weight of the loader attachment (so bucket and grapple) should be < 40% of your rated lift capacity. I would assume the same holds true for compact tractors. I believe typically rated lift capacity does not include the weight of the bucket as bucket sizes and options will vary by brand - that is why the lift capacity is usually advertised as being measured from a standard distance from the bucket pivot pin.

I spent a WHOLE LOT of time reviewing my FEL weight lift charts before I bought my Land Pride grapple. A lot of time at the Kubota dealer - measuring pivot pin distance to center of the loads I would be working with.
jeepcj7 is spot on. The manufacturers had to come up with some, more or less, standard distances. OR at least, call them out when they specify load capacity.

Sorry I have not responded to anyone was not getting notified. I found another grapple made by Worksaver. that only weighs 205lbs. Price I found was alittle less then $1400 Here is a link, Sub-Compact Tractor Mini Tine Grapple I am also looking for 3rd function ideas.

If you haven't committed, I'll be glad to provide guidance. The worksaver has a single 1.5" bore cylinder. Wicked 55 features two, 2" bore cylinders and a true root rake design.
