I am currently mowing with an x475, and if I get behind on mowing I use a 42" lawn rake to pick up clippings in the thicker spots. Next week my 62d for my 2520 is supposed to be here, so I want have the x475 anymore. Is their another way to rake or pick up these clippings? I going to look silly using the small lawn rake on my tractor. JC

I am always confused about picking up grass clippings. Why do it?

Titus 42:12 says, "Thou shalt not rake grass or leaves. They were left there by God to degrade and to enrich the soil."

It's a silly thing that some people do. Can't understand why. Never did on my own nor on 4 or 5 acres of church lawn that I mowed in past years.

I go around picking up grass bags and leaves that those silly town people put out at the curb. Am leary of the grass though. Some folks put that dangerous "weed and feed" stuff that'll kill everything in my veggie garden. Usually use that grass somewhere where I don't want seeds to come up.

Ralph,

You're becoming scarier and scarier. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Very simple, if you get behind in your mowing (like RollTideRam stated), the clippings are heavy, and will kill the grass underneath, leaving dead grass spots. I like my yard looking nice, so if I get behind in my mowing, I'll go back afterwards with the sweeper and pick up the clippings. A little ****, but it keeps the yard looking nice.

To answer the original question, I have no idea, other than getting a wider grass rake, sorry. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just cut again a few days later (or cut over the clumps only), it won't kill the grass that fast.

If you can take the time out to do it again, and weather permitting, that's an option. Not to mention you could also potentially have the grass you just remowed a little shorter than what you previously mowed. IMHO, do it right the first time, and get the clumps up. I'll either sweep it right after, or depending on how thick the cuttings are, wait a day to let the cuttings dry out so the sweeper can pick them up easier. It all boils down to how good you want your yard to look. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me too...........I pick up my clumps
Here is South Dakota we get a couple of weeks in the spring where if you dont mow every other day you get bad bad clumpage.

In the past I have used a 18hp Sears GT and a sweeper and it quickly fixes the problem.

Your not alone

Never heard of Titus 42 anything. There are only 3 chapters in the book to Titus.

I don't pick up my clippings either. I use mulching blades. If I get behind I cut the yard twice. Once higher, then at the normal distance. This keeps from having clumps of clippings.
