Grass question...

Ok here is the deal. For numerous different reasons, I had to hurry and plant some grass yesterday. I know that its not really "fall planting season" yet in Southern Illinois, but as I said, because of other reasons I had to get some planted quick. Anyways, here is my dilemma. I planted approx. 3 acres of tall kentucky fescue. When I planted it, the soil was VERY dry. I busted it up good, planted it, and covered it nicely. Now for my question..... It is very hot/dry here right now... 90's most every day, and no rain in sight for at least a week. How long can grass seed sit covered by dry soil before it goes "bad"?? Or does it even ever go bad??? Obviously if it rained right now, the germination process would start, and grass would start growing in a few days. But lets just say for the sake of it, that it doesnt rain for 2 weeks. Will the seed still be good? Will grass still grow? (Also I did cover it with straw). I know it is a little early to be planting, but because of erosion matters, I really had no choice in this matter. Thanks!!

Think of it this way. Each year grass grows. It goes to seed. The next year that seed sprouts as that season's grass and the cycle starts over.
If it is a cool season grass, the only concern would be that it would sprout too soon and a late season heat spell might kill it.

My friends and I built a softball field once. Had tons and tons of dirt moved to level out a hill that was there so we hit late May with a dirt field, then we tossed down a lot of grass seed (falcon fescue). Then we had a drought the whole summer. Watched birds feed themselves well all spring/summer.
It was near the end of August and the rains came, my friend calls and said we have grass everywhere! We had to patch a spot here and there but the seed was fine.
