Grass removal

If you opt to use your bucket, many of us have purchased tooth bars. It is a bar that mount on the edge of your bucket and has teeth for getting into the packed soil and not just gliding over it like a standard bucket would.
There are a number of suppliers of tooth bars, but many on this site have used Markham Welding. You can get a tooth bar for about $300 (with shipping included). E-bay is another place to look for styles and prices.
I used mine this summer to remove the top 10" of soil from a horse paddock that was quite packed-down. I removed about 50 yards of soil in two days. The teeth make all the difference in the world in penetrating the surface.

I have looked locally for bolt on teeth, or teeth I can use to build my own toothbar. So far no luck, looked online for toothbars. I'm thinking of buying one from either ebay, or from marham welding. Thanks for all the info, and the link to beginning use of blade helped also. Since this is a project that can wait, I'm not in a big hurry.

Well it took a while to get around to it. Now I have welded together and mounted my toothbar, total cost $182 from Markham welding supply. Works great on just dirt, rips it up real well, need to wet the grassy area I want to remove and see how it goes.
