Grass seed question

centipede grass will not grow in shade or poor soil. Why not ask local landscaper or nursery. You may find some other type of ground cover better option such as ivy.

I wish I could go this way....but it's in front of the house, the boss wants grass. Gonna have the soil tested, I have access to all kinds of organic fertilizer, I just have to shovel it myself.That's a sh**ty job....

While testing soil for Nitrogen, Potash and Phosphorus, take a structure sample to your county extension free service for their advice and they may even have some suggestions of what grass to plant. Whether their recommendation will satisfy the boss is anyone's guess.

Red creeping fescue is the best seed for low light lawns.

There are a number of seeds that work well in low light situations. Companies sell blends of these seeds and I plant that way and let nature tell me which of the seeds will become the dominant survivor. Not all survive but the ones that do make up for the rest. I have some lawns that are heavily shaded and yet there is a nice lawn growing underneath.

Soil fertility is fine but getting grass started has little to do with that. You need a good seedbed first along with a nice starter fertilizer. After that you can amend the soil to whatever you want. Things like chicken mature and such are fine but I have seen them burn young grass so let it get established. I use straight commercial fertilizer because it works without problems. Soil PH is equally important. My two cents.

Ive been using clover on more and more areas of my property, seems to do great in areas where grass struggled.

Isnt exactly what you'd use if you're going for a "golf course" turf or anything...but just to get some green cover it works great, and unless you're right on top of it isnt really all that distinguishable from grass anyway.
