Since there is no specific Grasshopper forum, I'll post this here. I just got a quote for a brand new Grasshoper 930D with the 72" power fold deck, wide stance dual rear wheels, for $14,860. The quote doesn't specify 2010 or 2011, and I haven't called the dealer back yet to find out. Regardless, how does this sound for the 930D. I've looked at the limited number of used 930D's online, and some of the used ones have an asking price this high.

I have a 4 acre yard with many widely spaced trees and shrubs, as well as a 6 acre pasture area that I want to keep mowed for appearance sake and for recreation. The yard is fairly hilly and it makes me nervous with my kubota B3030, which is just too top heavy. I can mow it but it takes way too long due to the care required on the slopes. The previous home owner mowed with a JD mid mount ZTR and 54" deck, but it took 4 hours for the yard alone. The pasture is perfectly flat, but with barbed wire fence to mow under and around. By the way I hate weed-eating.

That sounds like a fair price. I have the 722d with the 61" power fold deck and i love that mower. I mow about 3.5 acres and it takes about an 1.5hrs and im done.

I haven't bought one in quite a while, but I got rid of the 72" deck Grasshopper I had. It scalped so many places in my lawn and it's extra weight made me slide sideways down the back side of the lake dam that I'd mowed a thousand times before with a 61" deck. With obstacles to mow around, my wife and I could mow the 10 acres or so we mow around our house faster with the 2 722D G2 Grasshoppers with 61" decks than if I used the 928 I had with the 72" deck.

Since the 722's turn the 61" deck just fine, I no longer have a 900 series Grasshopper. If you have many hills and slopes, you may want to compare a 722 with a 61" deck to the 900 series with the 72" deck on the hills. Neither will be unstable by any means, but I can get the job done much faster mowing across the hill with the 61" deck. I think I paid right at 11k for the last 722D G2 with a 61" power fold deck.

Not a Grasshopper guy but a 72" deck can be a pain. We run Ferris ZTR's and currently have 72" decks. We will be going back to 61" decks with the next mowers.

The 72" can scalp, gives a much less even cut, tough to get on the trailer, tough to get though gates and around trees and such. They also make less accessories for 72" units when compared to the 61" units. I would love it if mowing a sod farm but in the real world its just too big.

Bigger deck sounded like a good idea at the time of purchase but now its just too big. Big Deck, now thats just funny!

Thanks for the input. The more I read, the 61" 725dt sounds like a much more manageable and versatile mower. About 2/3 of the yard are slope to a pretty significant degree, not to mention the pond dam. I think the 900 may be to much for that. Also, my 16 y/o may end up using it to mow yards this summer, and loading the smaller mower will obviously be much easier. Thanks for all the "practical" input.
