Simple soulition. Get gravel damp ( not wet ) roll& tamp & you are done Should last a long time. Of course the better the road, the faster people drive,
This is exactly what we do! And use a vibration roller. Problem is the steep road. Once a little depression starts from a spinning tire its washboard in the making. A couple of us neighbors put our trucks in 4 wheel each ascent but some folk have a propensity to cause damage that worsens over time. Still looking for first hand reports on liquid Magnesium Chloride application. Got to be natural... We dump right into fertile seabeds with oysters on our beach and crab shrimp and salmon for the catching too. I'm not a strict environmentalist but in this s case I am.

What I observed is that with automatic transmissions they all tend to shift at the same spot on hills; Each shift kicks up a bit of stone with next increasing the bump, then next car hits bump, kicks up more gravel etc. on an on hence washboard.

If drivers downshifted at bottom of hills there would be much less washboard.

I installed a sprinkler system to water my gravel driveway, which is about 700 feet long. Cost was about 10% that of asphalt, and there is virtually no dust.

I have it divided into sections about 100' long and I sprinkle each section 3 times per day at this time of year, 4 times in the middle of summer.

A hidden feature is that the water makes people slow down when it is on.

We use millings. If your road comission is cutting a road close by or there is road construction, you can get millings delivered. Makes a great no maintenance driveway that lasts for years.

I am glad our 1000 footer is asphalt.

Driveway sprinkling system .... [ is it legal to use on Jehovah Witness... ?? ] :) I'm waiting for someone to install an under driveway hot water system fed from an outdoor boiler.... and scrap their snowblower.... :)

Too complicated. Just run the firebox exhaust through a couple of steel pipes the length of the driveway, then up a chimney.

It would be a driveway version of the traditional Korean floor heater.

Yep. I even had a fancy sign on the bottom of my 700' drive asking people to please use low gear. Just too many people today don't know what low gear is. Car companies should just have P R N D. No point in the other numbers as they are never used by 99% of the drivers. Ended up concreting my drive and loving all the extra time I have now instead of doing driveway maintenance.
